I've always been fascinated by the process in which a new word gets introduced into an established language. Who knows, if we drop the word "equipmentician" enough into conversations here and there, maybe it could become a new word? I wonder how this process of new word creation will be changed by the existence of the internet -- I'm guessing new words will be introduced even faster, and their use will spread faster.

It would be fun if a word like did come into common usage! I guess its possible because like you said lots of new words and phrases come into being especially with communication across many cultures via the Internet.

"Gearhead" is the current lingo, esp. among musicians. It has the benefit of being shorter than equipmentician!

“Gearhead” I like it! And its definitively got a better ring to it than “Equipmentician” and less of a mouthful too! Equipmentician still makes me laugh and smile a bit when I think back to the dream :-D
