Losing My Arm

It was intended that I have my arm amputated for some important reason. The powers that be were preparing to anesthetize my arm, I knew this even though there was no outright evidence. I KNEW what the needles looked like, and I knew what the saw they would use looked like, a circular saw with glinting sharp blades.

I man I didn't know offered to hold my hand and walk around the block with me several times. I was impressed with his kindness, here I was about to have my arm sawn off, never to know what it was to feel the touch of someone's hand on mine, and this nice man was offering to give me one last taste of it. He was shorter than me, and balding....a few wisps of his hair in an outrageous comb-over. I walked with him, happily holding his hand, memorizing the feel of fingers laced in with mine, palms touching with each step. I smiled at him, he looked sweet to me, handsome even in a funny way.

"I like your hair", I murmured, truthfully meaning it, I surprised myself. He blushed and touched one thin strand, "Really??" His entire face lit up with his smile and I squeezed his hand, thankful to him for being to kind to me.

As I woke up, my mind was filled with questions about whether or not the anesthetic would work on the bone, or would I FEEL that as the saw bit into it?

I was getting ready for school, first day! The odd thing was, so were my kids, Andy and Rachel. My mom was going to drive them to school and I fussed a bit, not being sure of the time their school started. I rushed to help get them ready. At the very last minute, they pulled everything together and my mom drove them off to school. I watched from the front window, my mom's car was a weird little red sports car with the steering wheel in the exact middle of the car.

With a start I realized now *I* was going to be late for school. I rushed to get ready, with no soap, shampoo, razors, combs or brushes. I knew I needed to wear gym clothes under my street clothes and so I was searching for navy blue shorts and a white t-shirt. Everything I pulled out was way too big, I'd try the shorts on and they'd fall to below my hips. Then I realized I could probably get by with the denim shorts I was already wearing under my skirt. I fussed around, waiting for my mom to come get me.

    Additional Comments:

I periodically dream my mom is going to drive me to school. This was the first time I dreamt she was going to drive my KIDS to school as well. She barely knew Rae and she never even met Andy, as she died in 1986.

I was in what appeared to be a haunted house. I walked through the upstairs hallway with a few people, peeking into various rooms. There was a way to calm the house down, which apparently I was very good at, but I'm not sure exactly what it involved. There was some process that I instinctively knew what to do to calm a room down.

I found myself laying on my back, looking up at the ceiling in a back bedroom. The walls were painted a pretty blue and the ceiling was white. A bird was perched atop one of the windows. I looked closely at the light fixture, which had suns, moons and stars depicted around it's rim.

Softly I began to sing a song about "sun and moon, morning stars, daylight comes....." It was a repetitive song and as I sang, the bird flew from the windowsill and the woodwork in the room began to come loose. Timbers seemed to be crashing down around me, but still I sang, softly..."sun and moon, morning stars...daylight comes..."
