Once again I find myself wandering out a city, this time I’m with my daughter Anna.  I like this city, it seems familiar and friendy, if a bit run down.  I stand on the corner near a newsstand, rooting around through my purse for bus fare.  I am digging in my wallet as a small crowd gathers around me.  They are all amazed by the way the wallet telescopes and collapses.   It doesn’t appear to be doing any such thing to my eyes, it’s doing its ordinary job of laying there open while I shuffle through bills.  I find a two dollar bill with an odd picture on it, I know bus fare is two dollars, but this probably won’t be accepted in the machine.  So, I take out two singles.

Switch:

Night has fallen and I’m standing with a bunch of people looking across the street to the second story balcony of an apartment building.  Lions and tigers are lined up against the balcony railing, looking out over the city.   It occurs to me that it is a very easy jump for any of those big cats down to the sidewalk.   I try to warn people as I start heading down the street.  Sure enough, one of the tigers leaps over the railing and begins prowling.

I’m careful not to run, but the tiger is moving very quickly up the street, I only have a one block headstart.   There are some open convenience stores ahead, about ¼ of a block away, but I think I won’t get there in time.   I turn up the walk to an apartment building with a light on in the lobby, hopefully the door is open.  It is, phew, and I step inside as the building caretaker (a unkempt grey haired man in a white undershirt) starts to scold me for being on private property.  I quickly and breathlessly tell him about the tiger and he looks past my shoulder, eyes widening as he sees the tiger crossing the street and coming towards the building.

Two or three people that are familiar to me (in the dream) are now standing in the dark outside of the apartment building.  My heart is in my throat, the tiger is almost upon them.  I wonder if I’m about to witness tragedy.  But, the tiger merely rubs up against their legs like any kitten might do.  They absently scratch the tiger behind his huge ears and go on chatting amiably, just like any neighbors might do on a warm evening.

I walked through my big unfamiliar house....have I been here before?   I recognized nothing.  Then, there on the counter was my fishbowl.  Oh my fish!!   I had forgotten all about the little guy, hadn't fed him for days!   I bent low to look into the water.  To my surprise, there were two fish in there, my own and a new one.  The new one was barely hanging on, looked like he had a case of swim bladder.  I sprinkled food on top of the water, "I'm sorry I forgot to feed you.  Who's this?"

On a day when the skies were grey and the air balmy, I wandered through a lush green park.  It was no specific time or year or day, just a moment in the ever present now.  In the distance I saw two animals running side by side, leaping over obstacles in a graceful togetherness.  At first I took the two to be deer, but they were larger than deer should be.  The male had an impressive rack of antlers and the female was by no means delicate.  They looked like sturdy animals built for running and jumping.  Perhaps elk?  I wasn't sure.

As the two running deer-like animals passed by me (at some distance), I noticed another smaller animal standing among the trees in front of a large building.   I wanted to get a closer look, was this the offspring of the two runners?   As I drew closer to the young animal, I grew nervous and ducked inside the building.  Conveniently, there was a door with a large glass window right there.  I closed the door behind me, but stayed right there in order to look out the window and observe the unusual animal.  It looked rather like a cow...a heifer to be precise.  But, those two running beings weren't cows, were they?  I highly doubted that.  I wasn't sure that I was convinced this little heifer-like creature even was their offspring, but it FELT to me like it was.  Hmm.

    Additional Comments:

In the future, should I experience a lucid dream, I would like to try to revisit this park as it seemed familiar to me.  I would also like to try to understand why I feel fear and don't like to approach animals in my dreams.  Instead of orchestrating specific events, I will try to overcome my own trepidations when confronted by things I don't understand.
