A Reluctant Rejection

Lucid Intent? No

Mason Reynolds asked me out. I said that he had to give me some time to think about it. The reason being that I had made a commitment at Urbana not to date anyone for the next semester, and I was kind of tempted to call my mom and ask if it was OK to break that commitment.

I ran into him at a shop three days later and I knew what to say but I hadn’t talked to my mom yet, so I was still holding out hope that maybe she could turn me the other way and let me off with an unguilty conscience about dating him. It was awkward, because we mostly avoided each other.

I was in a movie, playing the part of some sort of heiress alongside Joel Prukahn.  There was this guy who was basically in charge of the racket – he was some sort of mafia boss or something and I was part of his deal (there was me and this other girl – I think the other girl was actually his daughter). Me, this other girl, and Joel all had access to this gym bag in a locker room. Somehow I think Joel was supposed to be part of the racket too, but the mob boss didn’t trust him. Anyway, while it was Joel’s turn to check out his stuff in the gym bag I was supposed to sort of spy on him. I pretty much just danced in circles around the locker bay, passing him quite often enough to see what he was putting in it – just a bunch of winter clothes. He caught me on one of my times around (duh, it was kind of obvious), and accused me of watching him with the bag. I think I actually hadn’t thought it was a big deal or something. Anyway, we pretty much didn’t think it mattered, especially since it was just winter clothes (and I had access to the bag anyway, so why would it matter???), and we went over to the other side of the locker bay to chat for a second. Then the mob boss came out and he was all angry. He accused me of consorting with Joel, who apparently must not be on our side (anymore). He pulled out a gun, as did Joel. Some person supposedly on Joel's side was told to go to some sort of jail or be a prisoner or something, and she left, perhaps with some of the guards. Joel was told to leave as well, but he sat there for a while. During this time, the mob boss wasn’t really paying attention to be so I used to dart gun to shoot him. He was temporarily disabled and I ran free. I feel like Joel ended up in the jail thing one way or another.

I knew at this point that the jail thing would be considered to be too friendly of a punishment for me (they weren’t necessarily going to shoot me dead, but if I was held captive it wouldn’t be as nice as whatever Joel was going to). I ran around this big blue locker room for the rest of the dream. It was clearly a men’s locker room, and there were guys everywhere, but they were all wearing clothes. As I was running through the shower area, there was a platoon of soldiers doing drills with a sergeant in there. All the guys were soldiers, all of whom were on the side of the mob boss to some extent. And…that’s pretty much it.

    Additional Comments:

I found it interesting that this was supposed to be a movie, but by the end I was running for my life like I was in real danger. Strange.

I’d forgotten about it, but I’m pretty certain that this isn’t the first dream in which Joel is actually a relatively prominent actor – never a lead, but has been in a decent number of movies as a supporting actor. Weird. His personality is pretty far from "movie actor" in real life.

    Lucid Intent? No

I was hanging out off the coast of somewhere, swimming around and just generally hanging out in the water with my family. I had some sort of missile-y cylinder thing, and I was just playing around with it, throwing it around and such (I think my brother Grant was too). I then discovered that it did something really cool (not sure what-- created waves or something?) when dropped straight down, nose first, from great heights (somehow I was able to get really high up in the air, but I don’t remember how - I don’t remember flying!). Anyway, shortly thereafter, a missile came flying into the ocean nearby (it was long and cylindery and the sort of shape you’d expect for a long range missile). We all sort of freaked out a little and prepared for the wave, but it wasn’t that bad. We then saw another missile headed for the water, so we started swimming towards the shore, because the water was getting dangerous. This one landed closer to the shore. Once we reached land, we realized that maybe we didn’t really want to be on land, since you could actually get hurt from debris there, whereas the missiles just create waves in the ocean, and it seemed that the missiles were getting closer to the land. So we stayed on the shore. Now the missiles were short and fat (like cartoony H-bombs) and rainbow colored. They would land right on the shore, but not blow up immediately. I ran away from one that landed sort of near me, along with several small children. It followed us, bobbing along the shore. We turned around, but now there were a lot more coming towards us (they didn’t switch directions or anything, but they were all coming from the same general direction. It was impossible to choose which way to go because they were coming from one way and going the other). Since they were moving along the shore, I decided to swim back out a ways, following the pier. I felt kind of bad for the kids, but there really wasn’t anything that I could do. The bombs still hadn’t blown up yet, and were beginning to seem sort of innocent. I feel like another tide of bombs showed up and started moving towards me as I moved away from the shore as well, so that wasn’t doing me much good either. Then I woke up (and was vaguely disappointed, because I wanted to see how it worked out. I’m glad there were no traumatizing end of the world experiences though).

    Additional Comments:

This is the first "weird dream" (not focused on people and relationships) that I've had in quite a while.
