JP, Mindy (his wife) and I were in a swimming pool. JP wanted to teach me how to snorkel. He told me to put on my goggles and come to the deep end. First we held our breath and went to the bottom. Then he started to show me how snorkeling worked. My goggles felt a little loose, so I tightened them.
On the slope from shallow to deep was a line of yellow plastic brush things. That was so you knew you were heading to the deep end. You'd brush your feet on them and then stop if you didn't want to go farther.
Then the water was drained. We were told to all get out of the pool. Mindy grabbed a bat (the flying mammal) and handed it to a lifeguard. It was about as big as a small dog. I got really scared because I knew you weren't supposed to touch bats. I was worried that she and JP would have rabies, so I tried thinking of ways to avoid them.
The lifeguard took it and pointed out that it was a toy. It attached to a string and flew in circles. He attached it to its string near the side of the pool, and it appeared to try to fly away. The string was tight, and the bat just stayed pounted in one direction in the air.
I told her that Mexican free-tail bats are only as big as your thumb. I somehow knew we were in Austin and that that large bat couldn't be one of the bats that lives under the bridge.
