I was with my boyfriend and family on a beach vacation to a series of marshy islands, where there weren't many tourists. My boyfriend was sleeping well into the evening, and I was wondering if he'd ever get up in time to join in on the things that were happening. I was also worried about reading a series of maybe 30 short stories I needed to catch up on in a literature class before I had a final exam worth most of my grade.

My parents and sister had been hunting in the marshes for snakes and lizards using a speed boat and some sort of tiny animal about the size of a lizard. Maybe a tiny black dog? They would put it on a leash, and force it to swim quickly through the water outside the boat. They were renting the animal, and it was trained to find creatures in the water and sort of herd them to the end of a swampy marsh. I thought this was inhumane, and didn't really want to participate, but I did eventually.

Later on, I was digging up seashells, and this small creature was helping. It dug up a giant one, but when I helped pull it out, it had horrible stinging tentacles that latched onto my towel, and I had to leave the towel on the beach because I couldn't get them off of it.

At the end of the dream, my parents were planning a sailing / hunting trip in a large, round-trip circle around one island. They were attaching a large velro-y map of their hunting trip to a sail, so other tourists would know which route they were on. I was worried about whether or not I should go, because I had all those stories to read, and also because I had mono (I really do have mono.)

A Wrong Turn in the River on the Way to School

I was late to school again. Elementary school, I think. I was older, though. Maybe a teenager. I was woken up by two dobermans which I have never owned in real life. One of them was my ride to school. My mom was upset with me for always being late, and I told her yelling at me wouldn't make it any better.

There was a river near my house, and I always liked going through the river on my dog's back. Showing up soaked to school crossed my mind, but wasn't really a problem. Unfortunately, it was very foggy and the dog took a wrong turn, and the other dog followed behind us. Suddenly my sister was there too. I think she was just swimming. We couldn't see where we were in the fog, and suddenly we were forced under water by what felt like a tidal wave crashing on top of us.

When we came up, the fog cleared a bit and we were up against the wall of a massive dam. there were concrete walls and ledges all around us, and a large wheel began to turn. We realized this meant another giant waterfall would be released from the top of the dam, and we had to get away. We swam quickly away, but realized we had left our backpacks on one of the concrete ledges bebeath the dam. We had to swim back at just the right moment to avoid the water.

I don't remember whether or not we accomplished the task, but it was very scary, being beneath this thing, watching the wheel crank, and the massive amount of water come crashing down from high above us.
