Mars Made Me Sad

I was looking through a special sort of telescope that allowed me to see Mars as though I were hovering less than a mile above it. It looked like Mars really does, except more red and flat and cracked. There were also isolated, sporadic evergreen-like trees. But no other visible life. I could use the trees to gauge how far away the ground was. Then I was standing alone on Mars and the trees didn't exist anymore. I could breathe the air and didn't wear any gear. Just light clothing. It was just dusty, barren Mars as far as I could see. I stood at the edge of what looked like could have once been an ocean. The light on the horizon and the distance to the horizon looked the same, but it was just an ocean of that same cracked dirt and dust, as though all life and water had just been sucked away. It made me deeply sad and very keenly aware of how alone life on Earth is in the solar system.

Additional Comments:

I've dreamt of trips to Mars several times in the past few years. Usually they are terrifying and I don't remember making it to Mars. This one was very peaceful though. Mars is never cold in my dreams either. I don't remember it being any temperature in particular.

    Dancing for Jeff

Jeff and I were parked on the side of an empty road, enjoying each other's company. There was a field next to the road, and the sky was clear with a full moon. Jeff turned on Austra and we climbed on the roof of his car to listen to it. Then I got off of the car and stepped into the field because I felt like dancing for Jeff, and just because I felt like dancing in general. Down there in the grass, I invented a new form of dance that no one had ever thought of before. I spread my fingers out facing the full moon, and moon beams shone through them like dim spotlights. I moved my hands all around me keeping my fingers spread, but my fingertips close together, and it caused the moonbeams to dance with me, as though I were controlling a dim sort of disco ball. When I woke up, Jeff and I were trying to come up with a name for dancing with moonbeams.

Zombies Again, Ft. Marilyn Manson and the Screaming Trees

I was at a show in the mid-90s, and The Screaming Trees were opening for Marilyn Manson. I thought this made no sense, but it didn't occur to me that I was dreaming.

Between acts, Marilyn Manson took the lead singer of The Screaming Trees, and made it look like he was tearing out his organs to get him off the stage. This excited the zombies in the audience, who started attacking regular fans who weren't zombies.

There was then a stampede to get out of there, and authorities had to divide up the zombies and regular people to control the violence and make sure no one got trampled. There were far more regular people than zombies, and the regular people were made to line up in rows and columns on a field outside, and march army-style towards the exit at the end of the field to keep things orderly. The zombies were sent off to different authorities to do the same.

Since the zombie line was much shorter, I started pretending to be a zombie so I could get sent to that area instead. It worked, and I felt very proud of myself, until I realized that the zombies would know I was alive and probably try to eat me in their current frenzy state.

I admitted I was faking it and stayed in line.
