I was riding to Montana with the caravan of suburban cars, with one of the instructors Bruce driving my car. We were driving past this small christian town which apparently used to be booming, but was now run down and deserted. They had suffered economic failure and all of the businesses had to shut down for some reason. It was essentially a ghost town now. I remember thinking how property value was probably low, and I should buy a large plot of land and build a nice house among the deserted town. Apparently the town had a lot of local coal to burn, but I guess nobody wanted to use coal anymore.

Eventually, the caravan stopped at a post office in a small town. For some reason I had been smoking, and I needed to hide my pipe before the professors found it. At first, I hid it in the bottom of a grocery sack full of quarters that I had in the back of the suburban, but I was worried that they would find it there so I hid it in a compartment in the back. Inside the post office, there was a rack full of potato chips, and some of the students were buying them. I considered doing the same, because I was pretty hungry. There was also a gun mounted on the wall, and I knew that it must have been a hunter check-in location. The two instructors, Bruce and Ed, took us for a hike on the nature trail that ran behind the post office. I guess we were discussing the rocks behind the post office or something to that effect. Along the trail there was a long and thin wooden box that opened up. It said something like "Mail Drop" on it, but I thought it was where they kept the trail maps.

Bruce said something about how we should just abandon the use of computers all together, because out where we were hiking and out in nature computer type doesn't even get used so it isn't worth using. He also suggested that whenever we got to where we were sleeping later tonight that maybe we could do another little hike around the trails, just to get in the mood for hiking in Montana. Jeff O was the only student that I recognized.

Additional Comments:

This dream was recorded at 8:14 am. I will be going to Montana this summer again, and it will probably be somewhat similar to what I dreamed.

    railroad post office

My mother and I were at some sort of Subway/Train Station post office. Initially it seemed like we were in New York City, but later it was Indianapolis. There was a big snow storm happening, and the post office broke down. The electricity wasn't working, and so they had to tow the mail-cart down the railroad track using a tan-colored bicycle. The man towing the cart was the manager at the Bloomington Chipotle. I found it amusing to see someone doing this, so I got out my digital camera and took a few pictures. My friend Chrissie was working there, for the post office. There was a water hose that they wanted on to help tow the train carts, but I didn't want to waste the water so I turned it off. At one point Chrissie was smoking a cigarette and talking to my mother.

Also taking place during this same dream, was knowledge that they were getting ready to vote on a congressional bill in Indianapolis. The bill proposed to expand the city's interstate system, adding a few more lanes and making a bigger junction where the interstates intersect, and making some toll roads. I was strongly opposed to this plan, and so I took some "For Sale By Owner" signs and put them along the side of the interstate where the proposed construction was to take place. On the signs, I wrote "Vote No to issue 154". I hoped that this would make a difference, but at the end of the dream, I saw bulldozers beginning construction where I had placed my signs. My plan to solve the traffic problem, which I discussed with my parents, was this : I saw that expanding the interstate would just be a temporary fix. I said that they needed to come up with an alternate mode of transportation- like a high-speed train that you could drive your car on to, that would take you to the other side of Indianapolis, thus avoiding driving through Indianapolis.
