I look up at the cliffs that are on either side of the tall ship that I'm on.  I'm standing on the deck, and we're passing through a channel between the rocks.  The waters are rough.

I wake up and realize the dream was probably a flashback to the old 1963 version of Jason and the Argonauts, when they were passing through the perilous channel.  This is from the Wikipedia article about the movie:  "To reach Colchis however, they must pass between the Clashing Rocks, a strait flanked by towering rock cliffs that shake and drop boulders to sink any ships attempting to pass between them."

I get very tired while driving along a busy highway.  I find a spot by the side of the road to stop and take a nap.  But the dream shifts and I find myself lying on my stomach in a sandy cave ... but the cave is made of towering cacti all around me, and ahead of me through the entrance the sun is shining beautifully through cumulus clouds.

I wake up and take an Aleve.  But it's already 6:38 AM and I was planning on getting up at 8:45.  I decide to shut my alarm off and sleep in.  It takes me a long time to fall back asleep, though (I finally fell back asleep around 8 AM, I think).

In a new dream, I'm in a hospital.  I'm very lucid, but I have my recurring worry that I won't wake up.  Suddenly I think of another way I can wake myself up -- if I start thinking about having sex with someone in the dream, that will certainly wake me up.  And, poof, I'm awake!  (it's actually kind of sad, I can't really have sexual dreams because I always wake up -- but at least it may actually help me get through these lucid dreams in which I'm afraid I'll NEVER wake up).

I can't believe how super easy that was to do.  I easily fall back asleep and test it again -- and again and again, going in and out of the dream about five times using this method.

Feeling more confident about just STAYING in the dream, I actually remember that I don't want to manipulate my dreams, but rather let the dream direct itself and I will have a minor role in that I'll be playing along (but very minimally at that).  As I walk through rooms of a ship, I touch the walls and the low ceilings so that I'll stay in the dream.  It works, and the dream becomes very cohesive.

Someone helps me build a UFO.  There's a very vivid part where I'm pushing an invisible plane against solid bar of silver, but the metal easily pushes aside as the flat surface sinks into it -- even though it's at a normal temperature.  Eventually, this leads to a disk-shaped, dark object.  Finally, we add some multi-colored projections to it so it ends up looking more like a Christmas ornament than anything else.

I lose my lucidity and go to the deck of the ship.  I see other UFOs in the sky, but they're blurry and their shapes are very vague.

I wake up ... but go in and out of the dream state about 20 times, feeling too lazy to get up and write the dream down on my bedside pad of paper.  However, I try to go over the details of the dreams as I lay there, not wanting to forget them.  I notice something happening which I've noticed before, except this time it's quite marked:  if I slip too close back to the dream state, my mind actually makes up a FALSE MEMORY of what my dreams were.  I find myself believing the new memory until I can shake myself out of the half-dream state.  Hmm, I'll have to find an expression for this strange phenomenon ... how about "obfuscating false dream recall."

I wake up the last time with this tune and these words in my head (I plinked the notes out in "Garage Band," which is music software for the Mac, but I don't know why it put such funny lengths for the notes) --

musical score -- dream words

rainbows and smoke around a hangar (illus.)

Date of dream: Thursday, June 21, 2007

I'm at some kind of school that seems to be run by a cult. They're intent on controlling us. I do something wrong, and realizing that I will be punished, I try to hide by running across some walkways on military ships that are docked next to the school. Then I'm running through hallways on the ship.

I peer around a corner and see that other classmates are being treated badly. I get up my courage and step out of hiding to protest. Those in charge look at me like they want to catch me.

Somehow, I escape. Soon I am flying towards two rainbows that are forming around two plumes of smoke that are coming out from behind an airplane hangar.
