I'm watching a news story about a psycho killer who murdered people in Massachusetts. I turn to my brother, B___, and say, "I don't remember hearing about this when it was on the news!" It shows the thirty-something man meeting his roommate's wife. The killer puts on a big show of false affection by placing his other hand lovingly over both of their hands as they shake hands and lying in a very convincing way how wonderful it is to meet her. He tells her about his former wife, who was not his wife at all but a woman he took hostage and then later killed.
A short while later, he has the roommate's wife captive in a basement crawl space, unbeknownst to her husband. For a few moments, I become her and feel the panic that she's feeling as a hostage to him.
Then the dream shifts for a little while with me in the killer's head. It's a weird feeling, it's like I have no conscience and I'm just plotting on how to avoid getting caught. I'm getting on an elevator and as the door shuts I say something to falsely reassure my roommate, who is outside the elevator. But this is inside of a government facility, and there is a small model of a nuclear missile silo on the floor. Thankfully, I detach from the killer's mind at this point and watch him studying the silo as he makes his evil plans after the elevator shuts. Even stranger, he has somehow programmed the elevator to travel sideways deep into the top secret areas of the facility -- he has gained complete access to all areas.
Then I'm back at the apartment of the two men, where the FBI is confiscating many bags of fertilizer that the killer was stockpiling there to make a bomb. The roommate is indignant over the news that the FBI has just told him about his roommate being a killer, insisting that it CAN'T be true. The apartment itself is a tiny studio, and the front wall is a large, sliding glass door.
I wake up.

Early in the night I wake up from an intense nightmare -- but cannot remember a single thing about it the second I open my eyes, except that it really scared me.
In a new dream, I'm moving a huge pot with an aloe plant in it. "It weighs 600 pounds!" I declare (IRL I do have a large potted aloe plant, but it only weighs about 80 pounds).
Then I say, "When it's not that strong, the astronaut got it wrong." I don't seem to have any reason for saying this, but now I'm watching someone on a suspension bridge walking on one of the wires.
A long sequence follows, in which I've just come back to work and everything about the hospital laboratory has changed while I've been away. My supervisor is even removing the computers from the lab, because everything is being replaced (in real life we just switched over to a very difficult computer system, so I think that's what this dream was about). And we're moving up to one of the higher floors of the hospital. I go up to the new lab, and am disconcerted to see blue chemistry analyzers that look like dishwashers. I tell the evening shift supervisor that I haven't been trained and I'm worried that I won't be able to catch up. I ask her if I can see the schedule to see what my rotation is.
She replies, "N____ volunteered to do the schedule." (N___ is someone who's very nasty and catty to me in real life, and I go out of my way to avoid her because of the trouble she causes).
"Ewe, don't let her do that!" I huff back at my supervisor, horrified that N___ is being given a position of authority when there are so many people who don't get along with her.
I go back downstairs to find the timesheets, but miss the elevator by a split second. I wait and get the next one, but once I step inside I see that it's a giant room that has glass, swinging doors on the front and back, and brick walls on the sides. Ahead of me, outside, I can see a shopping mall and a large lawn. I'm going up, but I don't notice that my intention was to go down.

When I finally get off, I'm at ground level, but I don't notice the inconsistency in that, either. Now I see I'm lost in the far end of the campus of the hospital. Two women are walking along beside me, and one is walking her dog, a lab -- she recognizes me, but not even dream memory kicks in to help me recognize her. I'm carrying a long, glass walking stick.
She talks to me about how her dog got briars in his fur from running through the bushes.
I try to be polite, but I'm worried I'll be fired because I can't find my lab (my dream was throwing puns at me, with lab signifying a labrador retriever and hospital laboratory).
I wake up and can't fall back asleep, so I just thing about the preceding dream for a while. I 'm somewhat surprised when these efforts result in a re-entry to the preceding dream (people here have encouraged me to try that, but I was skeptical -- but now I'm thinking their encouragement is what caused this to happen!). I'm back up in the chemistry section with all the new blue analyzers that look like washing machines. I put some blood samples into little plastic containers and put them in a centrifuge to spin. But I tell D___ B. (from my 1980s job) that I made a mistake, they should have gotten sent directly over to the new blue chemistry machines for analysis.
She turns it off and stops the rotor by jamming a stick in the assembly, and it clacks to a stop.
I wake up.
It's now midnight and I'm getting ready for bed for another night of dreams. But I think that last night's dreams were strangely precognitive, for I had a terrible night at work tonight, with the new computer system malfunctioning at the worst possible times, even necessitating me having to hand-write a requisition instead of printing it out so that a patient could get a blood transfusion in time. So today was, indeed, all about the "lab." (and I saw a picture of a beautiful lab retriever today, too).

I'm at the hospital I work at IRL, and a historic building that's part of the hospital complex is on fire (this building only existed in the dream). I'm with my brother and his wife, and they're worried because my nephew just started doing volunteer work in that building. However, before we can worry very much, M__ suddenly appears, telling us he got out before the fire started.
We get into an elevator in another building that has no ceiling. Instead, there are columns with Corinthian decorations at regular intervals on them all the way to the top of the building. But these columns are all at a slight angle and rotate in a spiral fashion, and as they do so they change in shape. I immediately conclude that they must be in the fourth dimension, for that's the only way I know of that solid objects can change shape as if they were liquid. This doesn't concern me much, though, and certainly doesn't make me lucid.
I wake up.
Additional Comments:
This dream was slightly precognitive because there was a scene in tonight's episode of Smallville in which Clark Kent and an alien from outer space were in an elevator that was decorated in art deco style.
