I'm going through the "life book" of some person. I read how he had a great big dog that was part pit bull.
(shift) I'm watching little people climb all over a giant man like the Lilliputians did in Gulliver's Travels.
(wake up, record, fall back to sleep)
I see a bunch of simple, featureless dolls that lie limp over a number of park benches and I can't figure out what it means.
(wake up, record, fall back to sleep)
In Los Angeles this guy keeps looking at me, so I punch him and get angry. Then I slap him, and he says that's harassment.
(wake up, record, fall back to sleep)
I'm with a group of people that travel in a special spaceship to a new location in space in one instant, not realizing the other spaceships in our group had already "jumped" somewhere else. "Where did they go?" I ask, and we worry about how we're ever going to find them in the vastness of the entire universe (shades of Battlestar Galactica).
(wake up, record, fall back to sleep)
D___ has done a dissertation and it's a few pages long, but he didn't get a good score on it from his professors. I wonder why it took him so many years just to do a few pages, and that makes me think that he's slowing down as he gets older. So am I, I think. Soon I'll be 56.
There's some scientific data in his paper, but not really very much.
I wake up.

[lucid assignment: let the dream direct itself, and just go along with the plot as an extra would on a movie set. Be acutely aware of opportunities to interact with the dream characters as they arise, and in this way change the mix of the dream.]
I have an intense dream that I immediately forget upon awakening -- however, these words are still in my head: "Old Union Hall Hospital." (There is a "Union Hall Hospital" in Union Hall, Virginia, just outside of Roanoke. And it was apparently there during the Civil War, although I can't seem to find out anything more about it on the internet.)
(record, fall back to sleep)
I realize my mother has been in a nursing home for almost a year and a half and we haven't called her or even sent her a card. I feel guilty, and also sad for how lonely she must have been all that time. I wonder how I could have forgotten when it starts to occur to me that she's actually dead, and that's about when she passed away. This almost makes me lucid.
(wake up, record, fall back to sleep)
A dog is approaching me on the front yard of my (dream) house. The house, which for this dream is only a block away from the house I lived in as a child in 1965 in C____, California, seems completely familiar to me. I think the dog is vicious, but then it turns out it's friendly. However, in a second it turns back to being vicious.
(shift) I'm inside the same house, having just woken up. I'm on the phone with my father, and he's telling me some story, but I'm distracted. I'm frustrated with how I can't keep up with life because I sleep in every day (this is somewhat true in real life, too -- I sometimes wake up so late that there's no time to do any errands).
My mother arrives in a car outside. But other people are with her, and I'm still in my pajamas when the doorbell rings. She's with people from the Chamber of Commerce. I try to tell Dad I need to hang up now, but he just keeps on talking. "Dad, I have to go, people are here!" I exclaim, but he still keeps on talking. I put on my flat sneakers, but the insole falls out of one of them as I run to the other end of the house.
My bedroom is a tent that projects off the end of the house, with walls being made of mosquito net. I get dressed and just go out onto the front yard from my bedroom. But now I see that the Chamber of Commerce has already set up a large tent out there. There are bingo marquees, tables, a lot of pamphlets. I think, too late, that I should have mowed the lawn, including inside of the tent.

(wake up, record, fall back to sleep)
I'm in a dream where I'm just thinking about how I went from having many friends to almost none at one point in my life ... no wonder that's when I got depressed. I draw an analogy between that and going from a large open space into a claustrophobic cage where you can't move.
I wake up.

All of the T____ family members are having affairs with all of my family members, except me. We're altogether in the same house, which is a modified version of the church my parents used to bring us to when I was six years old. They're all pretending like nothing is going on and they all seem to be fooling each other, however I am the only one that knows who is having an affair with who. It's bedtime, and everyone is settling down for the night ... and making plans for rendezvouses later on. But there are so many people, that it turns out my bed is only a boxspring and doesn't have a mattress. Annoyed and eager to get out of there anyway, I leave and go outside.
It's afternoon and I run into my sister. Oddly, she's not quite herself -- she's rebelling and seems to be a teenager again (IRL she's strict and conservative now ... but she IS 50 now).
She tells me she's running away in kind of a deadpan tone of voice, and I don't stop her.
I arrive at another house. I tell the people who come to greet me at the door that I'm a space alien, and to prove my lie I flap my arms and fly up in the air. But I don't get very high, so I just land on a railing on their roof balcony.
I see an old car lying abandoned not far away, and dream memory tells me it used to be mine. It's an old, sea green and white Chevrolet with a strange extension and distortion to the front of the car that immediately makes my dream memory recall that it's my "long lost UFO!"
(This is almost how it looked like in the dream -- this is a 1958 Chevy 4 Sedan, from -- Classic Auto Rental Services - Ford - Chevy - Cadillac)

I fly over to it, without any trouble flying this time, and put my hand on a dent in the body that's beginning to rust. The metal pops out and the rust vanishes, and the rest of the car turns shiny-looking and new.
I turn around and see my brother's father-in-law standing there, looking even more ill and haggard than he usually does. It occurs to me that I should do the same thing for him that I did for the car. So I place my hand on his hunched back, and he immediately inflates to a better posture; then I place my hands over the lines under his eyes until they go away.
(There was a bunch of unintelligible gibberish on my digital voice recorder at this point that I could not understand, or remember -- so whatever happened at this point is lost.)
I tell someone to take care of my old springer spaniel, W____. My old dog is there and wagging his tail. Suddenly, though, I'm alerted to a fire in the basement of this person's house. I open the door to the basement stairs and see flames licking up the steps. I slam the door and realize that a fire in the building is already out of control.
But everyone besides me is unsure of what to do. Losing all patience with them, I start shouting, "Get out, get out! It's already too late to save the building!"
Flames start coming through the door itself, and they finally agree that it's time to leave. But once we are outside, I look up to the higher floors of the building. With horror I recall that luxury penthouses are at the top, and we did nothing to warn the people up there! I even see one of the penthouse occupants through a window that's the size of a wall. He's lazily strumming a guitar, seeming to enjoy the false peace that he thinks surrounds him.
"Get out, get out!" I try to call up to him.
I wake up.
