I'm on a raised derrick that's passing through a shopping mall. I'm licking envelopes and putting stamps on them as I move
along, getting them ready for mailing.
I wake up.
Additional Comments:
I pay all my bills online now, but I actually had to write a check tonight and put it in a real envelope. The dream came back
to me the second I licked the envelope.

I'm at our old N__ house. There's some sort of problem with multiple gas stoves that are in the kitchen. I seem to be in
between worrying about the stoves and realizing that I'm dreaming. In this dream, I live with my parents and my
siblings' families in the big house we lived in in N___. I'm worried about Mom using a gas stove, but something tells me I
should pay more attention to the fact that I'm in a dream.
Finally, I step away from the stoves and shake my head slightly to wake up. I'm surprised to discover that, in my waking
life, I live by myself. I go back into the dream and immediately forget that this is so.
Curious once more about what my waking life is like, I shake my head again. And, just as before, I'm startled by the
realization that I live alone. I keep going back and forth between the dream and waking by shaking my head, and am
surprised over and over that I live by myself.
(shift) Mount Vesuvius is erupting, I tell the others in the car. We are careening around corners in a large city. I explain
to my nephew, M___, that the column of smoke from the volcano is right behind the giant derrick that is perfectly lined up
with it. As our car makes many rapid turns, the column of smoke becomes momentarily visible every now and then when
a huge derricks in front of it isn't quite lined up with it. There is a giant pulley attached to the derricks and hanging off to
one side.
As we drive along, I keep falling asleep and each time when I awaken I find myself in a different seat of the car. I'm
worried about the fact that my brother, D___, is letting the little neighbor kids drive the car. Their dad is helping the two
boys with the steering wheel, but I feel like one wrong turn could kill us all. Finally, the last time I awaken a middle-aged
man who's a friend of ours is driving. He's trying to sign a greeting card with one hand and driving with his other one.
I'm sure we're going to get into a wreck.
I wake up and turn on the TV, and the first thing that comes on is that Allstate ad that shows drivers trying to multi-task
while they drive.
Additional Comments:
It's strange that I am always so surprised to discover that I live alone when I wake up from a dream in which I'm living with
my family again. I can't say it's a good feeling to discover that, either; there is always something comforting about living in
a family environment while I'm in a dream.
