(The last few days I've woken up with almost no memory of my dreams, even though I now have a digital voice recorder on the table at the head of my bed, and that was working pretty good for helping me remember dreams from much earlier in the night. Hopefully this is just a passing phase ....)
I'm looking at some kind of "time travel picture" on a special computer. It's a high-resolution snapshot of a primitive village in Europe sometime in the 1200s, I'm told. People are in the middle of doing chores and duties to keep the village going, like one woman is pouring milk into a large bowl, a man outside is herding cattle, etc. The image is many thousands of pixels wide by tall, and I wonder how much memory it's using (I can't remember too many more details about it than that.) But I'm fascinated by this new technology -- it's like time travel, but different in that you are only taking a snapshot of what already happened hundreds of years ago.
Then I'm looking for my old white bathrobe, but suddenly realize I'm already wearing my terry cloth, brown bathrobe that I still have (dream memory, I've never had such a bathrobe, but I did have a white one that I finally gave to Salvation Army because I don't know how to sew, and couldn't mend it). Strangely, the bathrobe is tied with a bungee cord, which I don't think is odd at all (I think this is a reference to my goal of losing about ten pounds).
I wake up.

I arrive at my brother's friends' mansion after a long drive across country. It's a sprawling Frank Lloyd Wright kind of
design [in real life, I have a FLW calendar on my wall].
No one's awake yet, though. I pick up a dvd and put it in a player in one of the empty bedrooms and start watching it.
But somehow what's happening in the movie is actually happening in the mansion I'm in ... almost as if it's a video of
what just occurred there. In the movie, one of my brother's friends that lives there breaks up a lesbian relationship she
is in. The movie shows the point of view from the jilted woman's perspective. She's older, and I notice the pained look
on her face as it sinks in that she'll have to leave the beautiful mansion and the friendships she had formed with the rest
of the family during her stay there. The age lines under her eyes seem more accentuated by the sadness in her
expression.
I settle into the large bedroom that I'm watching the video in, even putting on a bathrobe that I find there. But then I
wonder if this was the jilted woman's bedroom, and if someone else in the family is now going to reclaim it.
Uneasy, I go out into the kitchen. Suddenly, my older brother, D___, comes out, just having woke up. And then, just as
abruptly, the kitchen is full of the family members of my brother's friends. R__ and D___ are there, too, the oldest sons
of the H___ family. I look out the kitchen window and see the full moon behind some ice-covered branches of trees up
on a snow-covered hill.
The house begins moving and the trees slip out of view while the moon remains in the same spot. I wake up.

D___, B___, and I were discussing some problem. D___ was wearing a red bathrobe. It was about me drawing up
cartoon announcements for one of their weddings -- either B___'s or D___'s -- like I did for C___'s wedding [our sister].
All of a sudden we were swept up into the air and began flying towards a lake off in the distance. As we neared it, I said,
"Look! We're about to have a family reunion , not only with each other, but with ourselves as we were when we were
little!" Ahead of us, wading near the shore of the lake, were a younger version of Mom (actually, she didn't look much
like Mom at all -- but I knew she was Mom), and each of us four kids as we looked when we were little.
"Remember this occasion? We must have traveled back in time to 196_ (I said a year somewhere between 1960 and
1963)! We rented that cottage ... and look -- there's the Siamese cat that we had for a while!" I exclaimed excitedly.
Mom was trying to make a fat Siamese cat swim in the water (in actuality, we never had a Siamese cat before the 70's).
We swooped down to where they were and began talking with them, all of us standing in the shallow water.
"Hi, B___!" B__ said to little B___.
"Hi!" little B___ beamed back, looking exactly like the cute mischief maker that he was when he was little.
I said hi to little B___, also, and he saw me and said hi back to me as well. I said hi to little C___ ... almost up to her
waist at her short height in the shallow water, and wearing those toy plastic sunglasses that she always used to wear
when she was little. All I got was mostly joyful baby talk out of her.
D____ was embarrassed, because little D____ was wearing the same red bathrobe he was wearing now, proving that he
was a real miser when it came to hanging on to old clothes. Big D___ had thought that no one had noticed that his
current red bathrobe had been around since he was a kid, but now here was proof that he had had it for twenty-some odd
years!
I went over to little Al, and tried to get his attention. But he couldn't see me, or for that matter, big D___ or big B____. I
said hi, but my words fell on deaf ears as it were.
Mom led me over to the porch of an old Victorian style house.
---------
I was looking at the exquisitely beautiful china sculptures S___ [a lab coworker in 1984] had created with her thoughts.
There were tiger lilies, with petals of soft orange china thinner than paper. And there was a brilliantly colored fox -- S___
had captured exactly how a fox would look stalking its prey. The thin orange china that made up his fur seemed to glow
from within. She also had sculptures of hobbits, and of many flowers.
I walked outside, and then turned around to face the women looking out the windows at me. I grabbed the left hand of a
girl standing next to me, whose name was Maria, and held it up so that all could see the engagement ring on her finger.
"This is how you solve a problem like Maria," I said to them in a loud voice, "but this is how you solve the problem of the
single bachelor ...." and I dropped her hand and took off flying like a bullet away from them all.
I saw a truck in the distance. I focused intensely on it -- my velocity increased until the wind was screaming in my ears.
I got closer to it and yet I didn't try to slow down. I knew it was a dream, and wasn't afraid to crash into it. As I bore
down on it, it altered so that it was a little different in shape and somewhat more detailed.
Just as its fender loomed large in my view, I awoke.
Additional Comments:
The "Maria" part of the dream is interesting. This is from a period of my life when I was still in the closet, and since I had just turned 30, I was feeling the pressure from friends, coworkers and family to get married and settle down. It took me a good more ten years to fully come out of the closet.
