I'm at the F___'s house (a recurring dream family who I wasn't that close to in real life ... it's odd that I always dream about them). I'm playing a long dungeons and dragons game with M___ and D____, and they're talking about snakes and rats in their attic. Strangely, there are also cats up there, but it's the cats they want to get rid of. I tell them cats would take care of both the snakes and the rats, so why not keep them?
In their back yard, an elderly woman dives into the swimming pool, but there are vicious-looking sturgeons swimming about in it.

I worry about her momentarily, but I want to swim very badly, so I prepare to dive in, too. However, I suddenly notice that the pool has suddenly gone empty.
I wake up.

I was in the future. This slowly became apparent to me as I looked at my new surroundings. I was
back in a gay roommate situation; my three roommates were good friends of mine, and one of them was
even my ex (from real life). We all got along really well, and shared one giant, strangely divided
bed. There were two heads to the bed, with a low partition in the middle where all our feet would
be when we slept. The man I was sleeping with was just a very good friend, while the two men that
slept on the other side were also just very good friends with each other.
But I had a secret crush on one of the guys on the other side. All of us knew it, including the guy
himself. I was flirting with him one night, and he was smiling and laughing...knowing that I liked
him. Suddenly we all broke out into song. It was some happy, rich-sounding piece that belonged in
a Broadway musical, I felt. But it felt perfectly normal to be singing it, and to be singing it well.
"Shhh-hh!" one of the roommates suddenly admonished. "They're here to bring you back to the past!"
Someone hit the light switch and we all ducked below various pieces of furniture. I hid behind a
set of shelves with books and decorative items on them.
Large glass windows on the whole front of the apartment looked out onto the city street. We did,
indeed, seem to be in the gay section of the city I live near, in real life.
A whole crowd of people were walking on the balcony that ran along next to the outside of the
windows on the front of the apartment (we were on the second story). Most of them were just
passers-by; but one man shined a flashlight into the darkened apartment.
His beam shone directly on my face. But I ever so slightly moved my head so that the pupils of my
eyes were hidden behind the actual shelf they were close to. Maybe he wouldn't recognize a face if
he couldn't see the pupils? At least that was my reasoning.
However, I think I was becoming lucid at this point, for there was a magical component to this
strategy as well. Hiding my pupils would magically make my face invisible, I believed.
The strategy worked. He began to move on, shuffling along the balcony with everyone else.
But a sudden burst of honesty possessed me, and I came out from my hiding place. "I HAVE to go back
to the past," I told my roommates. "It's my DESTINY."
They all disagreed with me and, indeed, were almost moved to tears. But I was determined. I went
out to the balcony and took a step off into the air, and floated down towards the street. Below me
was a giant king-sized bed on wheels, being pushed by a car. I landed on it and then tucked myself
in between its newly made sheets. I was wearing pajamas.
"It's PARTY TIME!" someone in the car said. I looked around behind me and saw that my gay friends
were now in the car. Except a subtle shift had occurred that I seemed to be completely oblivious
to: the guy I had a crush on was now a woman, and sat in the front seat of the car. She winked at
me, and I smiled happily as if I took that to be a signal that she was interested in me (I seemed to
have completely forgotten that I'm gay!).
The car took off, and it was announced that we were going to a celebration party of some sort. It
was to be at the house of a very large woman who was a friend to all of us. She was a "Divine" kind
of character (like in Hairspray, Polyester, etc. This was a great bit of news, because we
all loved her dearly (how odd, I do not know of anyone like this in real life!...except for my
friend, S___, out west -- but she is just a very large, very funny woman -- not a large man posing
as a woman!).
When we got to the house, we all rushed in. Our large friend was dressed up in a tall, white wig
that looked like it belonged to Marie Antoinette and a billowing, hooped dress. The dress was white
as well. I ran up to him/her and gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek...it was truly good to see
her (I'll just refer to him/her as HER from here on!).
Then the entertainment began. "Ready to play?" she asked me.
"Sure," I replied and looked at her curiously, wondering what she meant.
Some sort of darkly-dressed villain entered the room and the game began. It wasn't a real villain,
so there was no fear. I was cornered in the kitchen and it looked like I had lost...until I reached
my hand all the way up to the ceiling, like Elastigirl on The Incredibles.

Elastigirl, aka Helen Parr.
I pulled my whole body up to the ceiling and easily got away from the villain.
The next big event was to go up to the "haunted house" in the attic. This was a big laughing
matter, and in kind of a jolly mood I made my way up the narrow spiral staircase by myself. As I
went upwards, the staircase became an outdoors one, looking out onto the city (it had somehow become
daytime again). But when I got to the top, I saw that it was going to be a tight squeeze through
the plexiglass door that led into the attic...plus, I had to pull myself up again like I had just
done previously in the kitchen.
But this was easily accomplished. Even though I placed my right foot high up on the landing to the
doorway, I was able to lightly pull the rest of my body upwards just by keeping a firm grip with
that foot in place. I entered the attic.
Immediately, I was overcome with the smell of new cars. It seemed to be everywhere, and almost
overpowering (in real life I lost my sense of smell after surgery on my tear duct, so it's odd to
dream of smelling again). There were piles and piles of dark, pastel-tinted sheets of material
everywhere that almost looked like roofing. I felt faint.
You're being poisoned...this is all a terrible mistake, I told myself, and turned to go
back out the doorway. But I was already staggering. I reached up and began pulling some sticky
chemical that was already binding to my front teeth. I knew my host/hostess hadn't purposely sent
me into this trap, that this was somehow the work of someone else.
Just then, the head of a butler appeared over the edge of the attic floor. "I'm here to help you,"
he said in a strong, reassuring voice. "How are your superpowers doing, Al?"
"Fine," I said weakly.
He turned around and wings sprouted from the black shoulders of his butler suit. Seeming to know
what to do, I climbed onto his back and his wings started to bat furiously. We took off flying.
Wings sprouted on my shoulders, too, and I glided off of his back. "Who are we going to save?" I
shouted over to him, in kind of a comic-book-hero sounding voice.
He turned to reply to me, but as I had said the words I had noticed that there was still some sticky
stuff on my teeth. I went to lick it off with my tongue, and immediately woke up.
I was startled as I lay there in my bed. Had I just discovered another way to wake up out of
dreams...licking my front teeth?!
