Today 1-9-82 - TASTE TEST
(Had this dream a few days ago. Didn’t take time to make notes.)
Spouse and I approach a large house from the back, (shady side.) Enter second story (built on a hillside.) Entrance is ordinary door at backyard level. Enter what is like a "laboratory" kitchen. Folks in white garments with clipboards are cooking - packaging food products. Sample is offered, vegetable dish - they say tastes "like complete meat stew - "
We both taste small portion in dishes. (My taste and smell not keen.) Can’t decide what meat it is supposed to be, so I taste it again.
We leave room for large room on sunny side of building. (Now we can see we are up on second story.) My spouse starts to act as if he had been drinking. Two persons who are showing us the place appear to be taking notes on his reaction. Appears the sample we tasted was some kind of test of our reactions.
The people are entirely friendly. My spouse is cheerful, happy and falling asleep by turns. It seems to react fast.
The one who seems to be the lead person asks if I had sampled the dish. The other laughs and says I had taken a double portion. I observe the lead person to set a table. I think perhaps I should follow the lead and set some of the dishes, but don’t do it.
The same person acts deliberately servile, offering a chair and ducking her head low and handing me a pile of plates, (as if I might be easily provoked into aggressive behavior.) I’m reminded of one dog rolling and being subservient to another. It is obviously studied, "play acting," some kind of set up. I think hard, but don’t come up with any automatic response to what I see. I watch and wait. (Don’t sit down either.)
The one trying to trigger a reaction from me says, "I’ve never seen such a smother effect." This makes no sense to me.
My spouse, by now - is himself again. He and another are observing offside so as not to interfere. They both seem very cheerful.
I feel authoritative and the other one is still exaggeratedly servile towards me. I know I’m not being very cooperative. We move to the middle of the room where there is a long table heaped up with books. I do not select any or touch them. (The light here is poor.)
Finally I realize I’m back to normal also. Notice I’m still holding the pile of plates. I say "WHOO-EE!" and fling one of the plates through the open window in relief and laugh, ready to ask what this was all about.
This seems to baffle the one who is working with me, but my spouse and the other, who have been chatting seem to find this even more amusing. They move to join us, and I WAKE UP.
