I check the notes on the yellow pad at the bedside. During the night, (no time noted,) I woke up and wrote: "Look up the old dream about winning a contest and swimming." So I look it up. Here it is:
11-18-83 Pre-Dawn Waking (KARATE MATCH) Become lucid. Notice I am pitted against a small round opponent, a middle-aged Chinese man. I warn him suddenly, "The rules are I must warn you. Beyond this level, I have no memory how it goes. No Memory means No Guilt. I do not yield or give up." He is eager to continue. Suddenly my skill increases. I step through one hold onto his face. Break the next. Elude one more. Strike him with a leap and my left heel. Win the match. ("Defeat" the other competitor.) Suddenly notice I understand their comments. "See how the style changes." "Like another person." Pick up the prize full-length mink coat and start to leave. Still understand the Chinese people’s comments. I answer in archaic Chinese. They act insulted, as if I understood all along. "No, no" I say, "at this level I no understand Englis." I laugh a proper Chinese laugh at this joke and leave. I follow a corridor to the left, in the tile and paving stone arena. Turn right, (down a low flight of wide flat stone steps) and exit onto a porch that overlooks an immense expanse of paved courtyard under a brightly moonlit sky. There is an Olympic sized pool built up from the level of the courtyard, across to the right of the terrace where I stand. I fly from the terrace into the pool, diving from the air, and swooping out again, up into the air. I frolic alone, diving into the water and rolling in it below the surface and swooping back up into the air to turn and dive and swim again. Still in the level where I understand only Chinese, I pick up the fur coat from where I had dropped it on the side of the pool, but carry it (do not immediately put it on) since I am still dripping wet from the swim. I fly off, laughing, in the moonlight.

Not sure what prompted me to leave a note to post this dream, at this date.
As is my habit, when it is possible, I follow my dream/sleep suggestions and add this to todays collection of dreams.
(Note added same day, 8-10-11.) Counting from birth, I would have been 49, going on 50, in earth years, when I recorded this dream in 1983.
