I find myself walking around what feels like a college campus which is mingled with the feelings I associate with my current place of work. I’m completely in the nude save for a small wet white dish cloth which I hold in front of my genitals as if to hide them.

I don’t feel really that embarrassed as I walk about the campus and I eventually even pluck up the courage to discard the small dish cloth so I can walk completely unhindered.

I enter into a packed building where many people who look like students are all queuing and congregating, they look at me wide eyed and completely shocked at my nakedness.

I take a flight of stairs up to my dormitory room where I make a search for a pair of socks in a wardrobe. At first I can’t find any which makes me feel anxious but I then thankfully find many pairs rolled in to balls each of which has lots of criss-crossed patterns on them.

I appear to share the room with a man who I worked in a factory with about 15 years ago, he is just on his way out and asks me if I’ve got my keys. At first I think I’ve forgotten them as I’m naked but I seem to discover that I have been carrying them all along.

Additional Comments:

Interpretation: I’m still feeling very rundown at the moment I didn’t feel much like writing these dreams down partly because I haven’t got the energy but also in part because some of them felt a bit like the strange fever dreams one gets when they are ill and therefore perhaps not so important. The above dream felt very good and probably has something to do with feeling comfortable with ones image in public I guess, I have read that to wear only socks can sometimes indicate ones warmth and flexibility in understanding situations.

Dream 1: Satellite bridge – A very vague dream where I am on a strange bridge which also seems to be the back door to the house of the grandmother I rarely dream of. I climb up into a high awkward vague space something like a windowsill to look out over the bridge. I have a pint of beer in one hand which I place or misplace to one side whilst I look out over the structure. The indistinct drama has something to do with a satellite and also advertising which is not allowed to be placed too close to the bridge.

Dream 2: Crossed swords – In a hot, dry and arid sandy land I see two giant swords or sabers crossing their blades as they pass over a wide road as if to create a bridge or archway. A vague dream tourist starts talking to me about the structure, I speak my mind and say that I don’t find the swords very welcoming for anyone visiting this land.

Dream 3: Gorilla warfare – I find myself in a large open clearing or an encampment in a jungle setting, I see an army of soldiers who are about to execute a large group of people they have been keeping as slaves. There are terrible sickening atrocities taking place here, I watch as some of the soldiers come bounding out of a bamboo hut, they are no longer human and look literally like gorillas, these agressive creatures who are dressed in military uniform seem to be a play on the words of guerilla and gorilla.

Dream 5: Lawnmower birthday surprise – I am at work going about my tasks when I see a lot of activity taking place at the top corner of the room. It appears that one of my colleagues is receiving a birthday surprise from her friends. A part of this surprise consists of one of the friends wheeling a lawnmower into the office and proceeding to mow the carpet (?) the machine makes a terrible whining racket and I move away from where I am working to get some peace and save my ears. I head over to a familiar colleague and ask him what the heck is going on, he seems his usual self and implies they are just having fun. I notice that he has a large scab on his nose, something about this crusty skin suggests to me that he has cancer.

    Pulling up my special socks.

It appears that I have been staying over at my Mum’s house in my bedroom it is morning time and I have just woken up and am still in bed. I peer over to a large terrarium sat on a sideboard where I have two pet tortoises I am irritated to see that they are not how I had left them the previous night.

I am aware that the previous day I took a great deal of time tidying their little house and making it clean and comfortable, and now it looks like somebody has come along and put them into a smaller house and shaken it about aggressively. There is water spilt all over the floor, food scattered about and a small house like sheltered upturned. The two tortoises are stood on the upturned objects looking about and wondering what has happened. I feel almost certain that it is my step father who is responsible for this.

A bit later I find myself in another room which was also my bedroom for a short while. I am sat on the end of the bed getting dressed and putting on a pair of really special socks they are very long almost like stockings in fact except that these are woollen. The special socks have many multicoloured bands up and down them the colours are very bright and make me feel very happy and so does the act of putting the long socks on too, I find that there is something very positive about it.

Suddenly my Mum enters into the room without knocking and nearly scrapes the bedroom door over the toes of my other foot. I become quite cross in part because she didn’t knock and respect my privacy and secondly I can see by the look on her face that she is about to start her “So when are you coming back home to live with me” routine as she can see that I am getting dressed and ready to leave. I try not to let the situation aggravate me anymore and ask her to leave and close the door as I continue to find pleasure and comfort in pulling my socks up.

    Additional Comments:

I guess the part in the dream with my Mum must sound really awful but it actually reflects my current life situation very much, it is something which is actually causing me a great deal of stress as it is something that my Mum constantly brings up whenever we speak.

I’ve got a feeling that the shaking up of the tortoises wasn’t such a bad sign and might be a demonstration or suggestion to try and shake things up in my life and force some new changes. I’ve read that tortoises can represent creatures that don’t take chances and tend to withdraw from conflict so maybe this is where the shake-up is needed. This could be reinforced by the act of ‘pulling up my socks’ implying that it is something that I need to work at, I need to stop keeping my feelings inside, come out of my shell and speak my mind perhaps.

A strange kind of plane crash.

Date of dream: Saturday, November 25, 2006

It is vaguely daytime and I am in the sitting room at my grandmother’s house. I feel much younger than I am now, I am here with two childhood friends and a manager from my work.

We have a large selection of cardboard boxes laid out on the floor forming a kind of kid’s fantasy airplane. All three of us get inside the cardboard boxes and pretend to fly the plane.

After a while of playing we all seem to become very involved in the fantasy to such an extent that we really feel as if we are flying. After some time the plane crashes badly on landing (this was a strange feeling as were weren’t actually moving but it was as if the plane really did crash).

I get out of the cardboard box plane followed by my two friends but I see that the manager from my work is slumped over one of the boxes, apparently he is dead (not pretending but really dead?). We decide to head off and have adventures elsewhere but before we go we leave a hammer and chisel behind for the manager (it seems we did this so he could escape from the plane?).

It is daytime and I find myself in a car as a passenger being driven by one of my friends, we heading of to a golf course in order to meet up with the other friend in order to have a game. We come to a round a bout, my friend doesn’t drive around it at all well and has to reverse and manoeuvre many times before he can navigate the simple turn.

We arrive at the outskirts of the golf complex where I get out of the car, my friend heads over to the golf course but I see my wife a short distance away so I go over to speak with her. We both chat and she takes me over to an outdoor market near to a pier to meet a male friend who owns a stall.

She introduces me to the friend and I see that the stall he owns is some kind of cheap clothes stall but that he primarily sells socks. The guy has an offer of 3 pairs of socks for £5. I also see that 1 pair of socks costs 75pence. It takes a moment to sink in but I realise that the 3 pairs for £5 offer is a complete con or rip off.

My wife encourages me to try and attract people to her friends stall in order to make them buy merchandise. We have to pretend to be prospective customers without any links to the owner of the stall.

We pretend to buy socks and start to speak loudly about what the quality of the product the man is selling. After a short while a large group of people has been attracted to the stall out of curiosity and by the guff that my wife and myself are spouting.

It appears that what my wife are doing is acting as fake customers with the intention of attracting people to the stall in order to help shift my wife’s friends stock of socks. What we are doing feels kind of risky, rebellious and exciting in a strange kind of way but it also seems a little deceitful.

    Additional Comments:

I don’t know why I dream of golf as often as I do as I’m not at all a fan of the sport, I guess it must be symbolic of something?
