Daytime and I find myself observing a scene on top of a wooded hill on a quiet countryside road. From over the brow of the hill I see a group of scientists in white lab coats pushing an unusual looking car.

The vehicle is white and light turquoise in colour and is very low to the ground and is shaped a bit like a cigar or rocket, it looks very much like these energy efficient futuristic vehicles that run on batteries or pedal power perhaps.

I gather that this particular vehicle doesn’t have an engine at all though and that is why it is being pushed by the scientists, their goal would appear to be to find the perfect engine for their already perfect vehicle.

Additional Comments:

Thoughts: Last night before going to bed I had made the semi subconscious intention of trying to ask my dreams to show me why I haven’t had an out of body experience for a while now, of all the dreams I had last night I feel that the above one is somehow trying to answer that question.

Dream 1: Saving a friend – (A very emotionally charged dream). Its night time and I am accompanied by my wife who remains in the background and a young lady who I used to go to school with and who appeared in some of my past dreams such as this one ‘Describing a real dream within a dream.’ from Saturday the 5th May 2007. I feel very emotionally attached to the friend and sense that she is troubled and in anguish because her husbands are being unfaithful to her. The old school friend is married to two huge twins who tower above me at least 7 feet tall or higher. I see these two men embracing an unfamiliar woman in a dark alleyway of my childhood hometown, feeling brave I go over to the two giant twins and tell them off for their bad behaviour and what they are doing. I had expected them to both become hostile but much to my surprise they both back down and slink off into the shadows. The childhood friend is terribly upset and emotional so I ask my wife in fact I tell my wife that the school friend is coming to live with us at our home from now on.

Dream 2: Expressing joy – Daytime and I find myself in a large empty dance hall which is vaguely familiar in the dream sense. The large space is flooded with the kind of sunlight which has dust particles dancing in the sunbeams. I hear the distinct music being played by a very sombre late 70’s music group from England the music appears muted and tinny in a sad, melancholic halcyon music hall sort of way whilst the voice of the tragic lead singer echoes profoundly and eerily about the hall. I suddenly see a female work colleague step out into the hall with an unfamiliar man they both begin dancing in a very joyous carefree sort of way, the waltzing dance seems to lift the sad music into a rapturous and almost ecstatic sphere.

The ups and downs of being an ichthyologist.

Daytime and I find myself on a dream tropical island out in a vast calm sea I am accompanied by one or two people who seem like dream friends although I cannot identify them very well.

At one of the island’s beaches we meet a man who is a kind of marine biologist who studies fish, the man isn’t native to this island although I gather he has lived here for a long time carrying out his scientific studies.

I see the ichthyologist on the beach sat up on a strange contraption which sort of looks like a huge tank of water sea water, the man uses a kind of mechanical arm with a bucket attachment to scoop up huge quantities of prawns from the water.

(It now comes back to me that the prawns were pink and peachy in colour, I’m not sure whether that has any significance but this is the colour of prawns after cooking I think, if they had been alive I guess they would have been a kind of grey colour).

I walk over to a large old wooden work area it’s a kind of sorting station where the man sorts his fish out for studying, the wood is very old, brown and wet I note just as if it had been exposed to the sea for years. I look at three of the motionless large fish lying in a shelf and immediately recognise that they are fresh water.

I call out to the marine biologist as he continues to scoop up his prawns and feeling very confused ask him how it is possible that fresh water fish have come from the sea. The man tells me with a smile that it is of course possible and quite natural.

After working at the beach the man takes me and the dream friends back to his beach style apartment and scientific study, the man wants to show me a raft he has built which he uses on a small sea which he has contained in a deep pool in his laboratory (this pool wasn’t very big but the water looked and acted just like the sea).

The man is discussing forms of air propulsion such as sails (the air is very much a recurring symbol for me) I watch as he mounts a raft in the miniature sea and sails back and forth as if to give me a demonstration. He then pauses and shows me the detached dorsal fin of what looks like a perch or zander with a spiky dorsal fin, he spreads and opens the fin out as if to show me its sail like qualities.

The ichthyologist then attaches the fish’s fin to his raft and immediately receives a boost in its air capturing ability and performance. The sight of the man zipping back and forth in the little sea strikes me as a little preposterous but this may have been down to my heightened state of awareness as at some level I also realize that what the man is doing makes perfect sense.

The back end of the man’s raft starts to sink due to the speed he was moving he smiles at me as if to say “Well, look did you like the demonstration, you see it works” implying that the fish’s dorsal fin was the vital element in his raft’s improved performance.

We take a break from the marine experiments and the man tells me that the islands natives think that he is a serial killer the story is clearly false and would seem to be the islanders superstition. I get the impression that the islanders are slightly primitive and simple and treat the marine biologist warily something like a suspicious god like figure, either way I see that the man is not at all frightened by what the islanders think of him even though there seems to be the vague danger that one day the islanders might turn on him and kill him.

Later the ichthyologist takes my dream friends and I to an ice-cream hut down on the beach, the ice- cream cabin appears to belong to the man himself and he makes his own ice-cream. He gives my friends and I a bowl of ice-cream each and continues to chat with us all in a friendly casual sort of way, his ice-cream is incredibly delicious and the best ice-cream I’ve ever tasted.

    Additional Comments:

Thoughts: As I’ve been reading and learning a little more about astrology just recently I was wondering if this dream and maybe many others like it particularly the ones which revolve around themes of air and water aren’t somehow connected to my thoughts about this subject? In my birth chart water and air signs are very prevalent and I was wondering if I was perhaps not paying attention to or not utilising or even over utilising some of the qualities associated with the air signs? Air is very much a recurring symbol for me and in this nights dreams it appeared twice, in most of my air dreams the challenge seems to be how best to use the air such as in how to make something more aerodynamic or how the air can help power a vehicle such as in the above dream. From what I’ve read about the air signs it would seem to be something that is definitely relevant to my life. I also had one other dream from this evening where I was completely naked at work, at first I was a bit embarrassed and tried to hide my privates but after walking out to the canteen and returning I lowered my hands and wasn’t so ashamed of my nakedness. I didn’t give this snippet of a dream a space all of its own as these sorts of naked dreams seem quite common and easy to understand.

Dream 1: Up on a cinema roof – Evening time in my childhood hometown, after a brief visit to a familiar newsagent I go outside and find I am accompanied by a vague dream friend. We both stand near to a car which seems to have an excess of air inside it (?). (This excess air seems sort of odd but then it definitely fits in with my recurring air symbolism I guess, I’ll definitely have to give this some more thought). I have to somehow pump this unwanted air out of the car in order to win or earn some tickets. Later I find myself still accompanied by the dream friend visiting the cinema in my childhood hometown, we run like children up the stairs to the very top of the movie theatre. Once outside on the roof we both realise we are a bit stuck and the only way down is to somehow lower ourselves down off the roof, it’s too high to jump though and we feel quite stuck. Suddenly a strange tiny wizened and wise old gnome like character who had been shadowing us all the way through the cinema appears out of thin air and suggests that we wrap ourselves up in dried leaves this way we will be able to simply float down of the roof like autumnal leaves. Both I and the friend take up the suggestion and seem to shrink down to miniature size and wrap ourselves up in the leaves almost as if we were being rolled up inside a long carpet or rug.

    An orca’s tale.

Daytime and I am floating in the sea with a group of marine scientists not far from the coast.

The people I am with are conducting a study into the behavior of killer whales. I watch as they position a long tall net in the sea to create a barrier between themselves and the huge orcas they are going to watch.

Once the net is in place they then throw a woman who is dressed in a wetsuit over the top of the net for the killer whales to play with, I am aware that the woman is a willing participant in the experiment.

As the killer whales toss the woman into the air as if playing with a seal I notice something particular about one of the orcas.

I can see that one of the killer whales in the pod is missing its tail and at the rear of it’s body I can see a huge chomp mark, it is quite clear that it’s tail has been bitten off.

This particular killer whale seems to have a different mentality to the other playful orcas it seems harbor resentment and doesn’t want to associate with them. I watch as it swims over to the coastal cliff face and backs itself into the cliff wall as if finding a place of protection.

I then watch as the tailless orca sits up with its head protruding from the water, it seems to be chewing on what looks like sausage meat, after chewing the meat for some time the whale spits it out at the other killer whales as if insulting them.

As the orca is chewing I distinctly note that it has human teeth.

    Additional Comments:

Thoughts: I associated the tailless orca with myself particularly when I saw its human teeth. I also thought that the orca’s tail was bitten off by itself rather than one of the other killer whales (hence the scene where it was chewing what looked like sausage meat). The reason I mention that is because this particular creature had a strange human attitude about it, the act of biting off its own tail made me think of the expression “Cutting off the nose to spite the face”. I had a vague feeling that the tailless orca thought it saw itself as being better than the rest of the orcas because it was being more human. I have an inkling that the drama might serve to show how ones innate instincts are the driving force in ones life (as represented by the tail), the tailless orca seemed to symbolize what happens when one denies their instinctual side. Dream 1: Help from stepfather – Night time at my Nan’s house and my stepfather is going out of his way to ferry me around in his car. I can see he is tired from working long hours but he is helpful and drives me to the old youth club in town. Dream 2: Discourteous winner – I see a fidgety John McEnroe waiting in a dressing room before a big match is about to take place. I cut straight to the end of the match where I see that John has won, he makes a spoilt childish display of celebration stomping around the court and going so far as to jump on the net squashing it to the ground. He briefly and disinterestedly acknowledges his opponent, an act which I find quite disrespectful. Dream 3: Sorting out CD’s – I am sorting through a collection of music CD’s. I separate out the albums which contain moody or depressing music with the intention of disposing of them. I pick up one CD which has a picture of a young vagrant couple in a dilapidated basement apartment. The couple in the picture are dancing and look happy but the scene makes me feel negative, I place this CD on the pile to be thrown away it represents just the sort of music I don’t want in my collection anymore.
