The impossible family tree.

It is daytime and I find myself back in my dream version of London (much, much better atmosphere this time). I am with a very large group of women who are all related to me, some of the family members I recognise whereas others are strangers and dream characters or are very distant relatives.

There is only one other male in this very large group (30 or more women) this person is a little (dream) boy of between 7 and 9 years of age. I am this boy’s guardian and take care of him as we walk about the streets exploring, shopping and taking in the sights.

The atmosphere is really very nice and everyone gets along very well and is having a great time, I even see women from my Mum’s side of the family mingling and having fun with the women on my Dad’s side of the family. Being out with the women and little boy like this makes me very happy and fills me with a wonderful feeling.

As we stroll around the streets on our day out we bump into yet another large group of thirty or so women who are all from America. A bright faced woman (vaguely reminiscent of an ex-girlfriend) with long brown curly hair comes over to speak to me. She explains that she and her female friends are also my relatives too, this is really astonishing and very nice as I never realised I had so many relatives that I never knew about.

The American lady goes on to tell me that our large family group all originated from a single ancient relative who was a Scotsman living hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Her story is very interesting and gets me thinking and wondering what that distant relative was like. (There is a definite feeling that the genealogy of this family consists mainly of all females except the Scotsman, myself and the little boy....pretty weird and quite impossible?).

After our chat a familiar great aunt on my Mum’s side of the family announces that it is time to go to a nice café for a cup of coffee and something to eat, most unusually she is speaking in German to the rest of the other ladies (in reality none of my family are from Germany or speak German) I try to understand what it was she was saying but it was too fast and very fluently spoken.

We all carry on our way (the whole outing has a wonderful family atmosphere about it, very special). We come to a very fancy coffee shop something like a Starbucks where they do special coffee and cakes. We all head inside where one of the women (a female who seemed to be a composite of my wife and Mum) orders cakes and coffee for us all.

Whilst at the self service area I ask my wife/Mum character to purchase me two books that I see on the counter that are on display and for sale. The composite woman adds the books to the tray and goes to pay for them at the till with the rest of the cakes and drinks. Both books looked similar much taller than they are wide (kind of like a restaurant menu), chunky and thick and bound in a rubbery matt black material.

The first book is about boots and the right kind of boot to wear around London (fashion wise but also for comfort too), its something like a guide book to shoe shops in London too, on the front cover is a pair of very tall Dr. Marten style boots.

The second book is almost identical to the other but is about creating ones own Website. This book also doubles as a map, something along the lines of a London Underground map, in fact there seems to be a strong link between the World Wide Web book (or webs in general) and maps or routes.

I’m handed a kind of flapjack or cereal bar and take my drink over to a large set of tables that have all been pushed together to accommodate the very large family (there is a very jovial and chatty female atmosphere at the table).

I see that the little boy that I am taking care of has gone over to a special display near the shop front window. This display is very intriguing, it consists of a tall square table (not very wide though) which has a giant hunk of pink translucent hard candy which has lots of flaked almonds embedded inside it.

This special display is intended for children who visit the café to go and take a piece of candy by using a small toffee hammer situated near to the display (this candy display feature reminded me or seemed to have some parallels with the ice cream factory at Pizza Hut (although in my dream the candy jewel mountain was free).

I watch as the little boy I’m with struggles to chip off a piece of the brittle candy with a small tea spoon. Just then a large aggressive and very obese man stomps over to the candy crystal mountain with his son and barges my little boy out of the way. I can’t believe what I see and launch myself up out of my seat and get ready to really lay into the bully, I rage at the man and he instantly backs down. I have thoughts of beating the living daylights out of the man but decide to take the small boy in my hand and head back to the table with the rest of the relatives.

We spend a considerable time in the café drinking, chatting and having a good time before we all decide to leave. We all get into a very large vehicle something like a cross between a London cab and a limousine, it may even be being driven by one of my female relatives either way it is very nice to be sat at the back and not have to do any of the driving.

I gather that we are driving to a record shop something like a Virgin Megastore, I ask my wife/mother character (this composite makes me quite confused at this point as I try to differentiate who she is) to hand me my shopping satchel as I’d like to have a quick browse at my books and organise my bag. I look inside my bag and see that it is full of lots of things that I have bought on our outing.

I also see what looks like a large packet of blank compact discs (which also happen to resemble a large packet of pocket handkerchiefs). I realise that if I enter into the record store with the blank CD’s they might think I’ve shoplifted them so I organise them in my bag in advance so that this won’t happen.

This dream has been viewed 4092 times.

I find myself in a very small room which feels as though it is a tiny record shop, there is only space for the owner who is sat at a desk and for one other chair which I am sat upon consulting the record man about a particular female music artist. The man has a light brown wavy hair and a matching wiry beard he is older than me and kind of reminds me a little of a radio DJ. His tiny room is full of all sorts of filing trays, papers and folders with lots of shelves on the walls and a desk either side of where he is sat.

I tell the chap that I am looking for a CD by a (dream) female artist it’s either her latest album or her final one. The album is full of angst ridden songs which have moody militant overtones (possibly in an extreme feminist kind of way). I describe the disc to the record man, it has a picture of the female artists with short cropped bleached hair on the cover she looks a bit tough and aggressive. I scroll down through the tracks in my minds eye looking at the song titles all of which appear to follow this same theme of adolescent depression and pent up aggression.

The man tells me that that record isn’t in stock but he can order it for me, I fill out a small slip of paper and hand it back to him. I get up and leave through the door behind me and step out into the living room of somebody’s house, it’s a bit of a weird feeling and catches me by surprise as it is only now that I realise that the man’s record shop is actually situated within somebody’s home.

The house look like a pleasant ordinary looking suburban house, I meet the woman of the house who appears to be in her late 60’s early 70’s she has a female friend or guest with her, she seems quite friendly and polite but I don’t want to intrude so I ask her the way out of the house so that I can leave. I got the impression that the record guy was most probably her husband running his little business from his home shop.

The woman tells me that her bedroom has moved and that I can leave via this room, she goes onto say that the bedroom has been moved into something like a ground floor glass conservatory which is an extension on the side of their house. Apparently the woman isn’t so keen on this new development or layout as she finds it difficult to sleep with the lack of privacy that the large glass windows create.

I assume that she feels uncomfortable that somebody might be peering into her bedroom at night as she tries to sleep, and that she would have preferred the bedroom to be elsewhere but the new location appears to have been chosen for a specific reason.

I thank her for the directions and head off toward the unusual bedroom, on the way to the bedroom I see a young girl* in another room through a door which is slightly ajar (possibly another bedroom). The female has her back to me and from what I can see appears to be playing with some very smooth pebbles or stones, because of the way she is sitting and perhaps what she is doing it puts me on edge a little bit (for some reason she is dressed and reminds me a little of one of the twin girls from the film ‘The Shining’.

As I pass through into the lady of the houses bedroom I notice two single beds pushed closely together the one to the left looks a little like a hospital bed and is folded in such a way as to let the person who uses that bed sit upright, the room has a vague feel of a hospital or clinic about it and this seems to be added to by the large glass windows (or walls). I actually find the view from this room very pleasant as the garden these people own is very lovely.

I step through the patio style door out into the garden and spend a moment or two there enjoying the idyllic scene before heading off on my way.

    Additional Comments:

*I saw a vision of the same girl doing something with the same stones as I was falling asleep last night (behind closed eyes).
