Lucid Intent? No
This dream has been viewed 5238 times.(A profoundly vivid and emotive dream whose feeling has stayed with me since having it, I haven’t had a dream quite this powerful for a long time).
Afternoon and I’m stood on a hill top in the afternoon in a vast wild awe inspiring landscape of green rolling hills somewhere in England. Way, way off in the distance I can see a large mountain which has an unusual natural stone stack feature towering at its very top.
I am accompanied by a very old man to my left who is naked he is easily 90 years of age if not older, he has slightly sagging wrinkled skin but is surprisingly sinewy and strong with it. The elderly man has come to climb the mountain that we can see off on the horizon, I’m made aware that he has to be naked in order to do this and it seems for symbolic reasons (although he does carry his clothes with him) just like he is not allowed to use any ropes or climbing equipment to scale the mountain either.
To my right we are accompanied by a television camera crew who are going to come along and document the old man’s climb. I’m made aware that the mountain hasn’t been climbed by anyone for 500 years.
The challenge of the mountain stretches out before us and so we set off to climb it by hiking across the rolling landscape, the journey to the mountain seems to take days but also paradoxically happens in an instant.
We all manage to climb the first part of the green grassy mountain or huge hill with the elderly man climbing incredibly well with great determination and enthusiasm in fact even better than myself and the television crew.
We eventually reach the high plateau where the sheer vertical cliff face of the tall towering chimney like geological feature rises up into the clouds. It becomes apparent that television crew must remain behind at this point as only the old man is allowed to continue the climb from here, apparently only he is worthy and permitted to go to the top of the mountain but it would appear that I am allowed to accompany him and go along with him though.
As soon as we start climbing the vertical brown cliff face the weather turns terrible and we are surrounded by a thick blizzard of swirling snow flakes which makes the visibility zero, I find the climbing very hard so how the aged man who is naked manages the climb I don’t know but he climbs even better than myself with the energy of a young man.
The weather conditions as we reach the top of the stack are horrendous but we eventually come to an opening or hole in the top of the mountains natural chimney like pinnacle, the old man climbs down inside and I follow after him.
We both find ourselves inside a strange chamber with many unusual gothic and Gnostic markings on the walls, the sanctum is utterly still and silent which contrasts heavily with the whistling wind that was heard outside. I look more closely at the markings on the walls and to my right I see the bust of a gothic woman carved into the wall, I say to the old man “Look, it’s Mary”. Looking in front of me I saw what looks like a bas relief sculpture cut into the rock of Leonardo’s last supper, I’m slightly disturbed to see that instead of Jesus and the disciples sat at the table I see the kind of daemons Hieronymus Bosch would have painted, they all feast and party wildly at the table gorging themselves on food and bickering with one another.
Many of the other symbols etched into the rock are very simple but obscure and I don’t understand them at all, I get the impression that many wise people have visited and even lived in this cave in the past and left their mark including the poet and engraver William Blake.
No sooner have we arrived than I sense that we have to leave again, the old man seems content with this but I sense that he vows to return in the future when he will stay inside the mountain for longer to study the symbols.
The immense effort to have got here only to have to leave again frustrates me immensely as I feel that there is so much to learn here. I make a childish demand to the soul or spirit of the cave, in fact it felt as if god or my idea of god dwelled here and I beg the all that is to tell me and the old man something meaningful and profound before we leave, I have the sad upsetting thought that the old man may not be able to come back to the cave as time will run out because of his age and that he will die of old age soon.
As if to grant my request to have a secret revealed the cave fades into the background to be replaced by an infinite black void. I see what looks like a translucent membrane or sheet rippling gentle in the centre of the void it is made clear to me that this sheet represents the universe in its absolute entirety. The membrane looks strange to me as it appears two-dimensional and yet our world is somewhere inside and within that sheet, I have the impression that this portrayal has perhaps been made symbolic and simplified for my own benefit.
The opened sheet represents an end cycle of the universe, I continue to watch as huge sunbeams of golden light get drawn or shoot up slowly in a diagonal left to right direction from the membrane out into the void. I’m made aware that this light represents all that is good in the universe going back to its source.
The darkness that is left in the membrane isn’t yet ready to go back to god so the sheet is rolled back up again into a tube and the universe starts its cycle again. I’m made aware that this cycle of rolling and unrolling the membrane goes on ad infinitum until all of the light has been drawn from the universe and has gone back to god.
I suddenly wake up from this vision beneath a tree I used to sit beneath at my place of work in the lunchtime, it appears that I’d been sleeping and have now just awoken into the morning. Looking about me I see other work colleagues lying on the grass waking up from beneath their blankets and sleeping bags too. I see a particular work colleague just in front of me waking up, he is the one who is passionate and fanatical about cars and he tells me that he has just had the most fascinating dream, I tell him with much excitement that so did I.
I decide to let him tell me his dream first as I know that I will be able to memorise mine better than he can as I am used to remembering my dreams.
Additional Comments:Thoughts: It’s very difficult to actually write this dream up and do it justice by trying to put it into words it was so vivid and real as to be quite shocking. For example the part where I was climbing the vertical cliff face in the blizzard was so real that even thinking about it now has me coming out in goose bumps. As to its meaning I think the dream probably is a reflection of that part of me that is always questing and seeking life’s answers, the two symbols that I could identify from within the cave were those of Mary and The Last Supper (although this one was more in a grotesque and distorted form) I’ll have to think about these some more as they both seem very significant perhaps not so much to my direct waking life but more in a spiritual regard.
Dream 1: Mum’s joins me on holiday – (I focused all of my attention on memorising my principal dream from this night as it seemed so important, so the write up for this dream and the one below is a bit thin on details because of that. Also the above dream was the last one of the morning and occurred after I had woken momentarily and then dropped back off to sleep, something which can sometimes affect the recall of previous dreams). Anyway….Daytime and I feel like I’m on a well earned holiday in a very pleasant sunny location, the ambiance is one of letting down ones guard or defences and just relaxing and going with the flow. Apparently some arrangements had been made to meet my Mum on the holiday and for her to join in the vacation. I do eventually meet my Mum who appears much younger and somewhat more intimately involved with me at least more from her side or point of view than mine in a boyfriend girlfriend kind of way. The rest of the dream is spent eating and indulging in all sorts of foods and then sharing our thoughts about the tastes and flavours of those things.
Dream 2: Trying to window cleaning – Daytime at my place of work and looking out of the window I can see my younger sister with my brother-in-law and their children outside the entrance to the building. It would appear that my brother-in-law has kind of roused his family together as a kind of window cleaning team in order to wash all of the office windows at my work. I watch as my brother-in-law gets into a rock climbers harness and also suits up my sister and their children too, he then proceeds to attempt to scale up onto the porch above the entrance door to begin cleaning the first of the windows. My brother-in-law doesn’t seem to have his abseiling kit properly adjusted though and descends back down to the ground with a bit of a spring in the climbing rope, it looks like cleaning the windows will be not as easy as he first thought so I go out to help him.
