(I slept very heavily last night and although I managed to recall quite a few dreams I simply seemed to be a transient ghost like drifter through them, the dreams seemed to contain only the merest of symbolism, or at least it would seem so).
It is night time and I have been visiting many of the hotels I worked at when I was younger. Some of the hotels are very familiar whilst others appear to be juxtaposed dream versions of the hotels I worked at and others quite new and unfamiliar.
I float through the hotels looking at what is going on, I see people sat in the lounges of bars whilst they are served by waiters and bar stewards, everything seems very ordinary and nobody really seems to notice me as I drift on through quite undetected, this scenario goes on for quite a lengthy period of dream time as I visit various hotels in different locations.
I eventually come to an unfamiliar hotel in what feels like London, it’s a huge fancy, exclusive and very expensive looking grand hotel. I drift through the many floors, rooms and dining areas before eventually stepping outside onto the street, it would appear to have been previously raining as the pavements are glistening wet.
A car pulls over to me and the driver winds down his window and beckons me over, I go over to see who it and instantly recognise the man but cannot for the life of me place his face. I wrack my memory trying to think where it is I’ve seen the man before this seems to take an eternity but is also instantaneous. I soon recall the man and remember him as an electrician I used to know.
The man tells me that he has come to pick me up and give me a lift to a party or soiree which has been arranged by an old friend of mine whose name is Claude (in reality I don’t know any such person with this name).
The electrician is very insistent that I get into the car and that he takes me to the party, as if sensing my confusion over the friend who I can’t recall I’m sent a mental picture of the party as it happens and see the man called Claude, I seem to vaguely recognise him as a student who may have been at one of the art colleges or the university I went too in the past.
(This seems true as I can vaguely recall such a person but I can’t remember his name (it wasn’t Claude though) or anything about him only an image of his very friendly noble face with long centre parted blond hair).
In my vision I see this Claude character back at one of the real waking life hotels I drifted through earlier he is hosting his party and welcoming his guest. I see that he smokes a cigar and is looking forward to my arrival. I too feel quite curious about going to the party so I get into the electricians car so that he can take me to the party.
Thoughts: Most of my dreams seemed sort of regular last night or perhaps didn’t contain anything
which was really crying out for me to examine further, so I thought I’d use this space to explain how I
tried for an out of body experience this morning. At some point I woke up out of sleep in the early
morning and decided to will myself to have an Oobe I used to have these experiences occasionally
about a year ago but have had nothing for a long time. I don’t really know how to initiate such an
experience so I just tried to will it or intend for it to happen. I was awake and very relaxed and seemed
to remember reading something that out of body experiences are meant to be easier when ones head
is oriented towards magnetic north fortunately this just means a slight shift of angle in bed for me so I
did this and then tried to will something to happen. After a while of just laying there with eyes closed
and feeling for something to happen I felt a very heavy lurching sensation and then an equally
ascending lightness, this sensation felt just like the vibrations I’m familiar with or rather that should be
a ‘vibration’ because what I felt seemed to be just one cycle of a vibration or an undulation. As an
analogy it was like one cycle of a piston firing or like the crank handle on an old fashioned car being
turned once. And that was it! I though the vibrations might continue but they didn’t, I think that this was
in part due to the fact that I was becoming quite conscious and more distracted by the sounds around
me. I wasn’t really going to even mention this and thought of it as a bit of a failure but then I thought
why not post it as in some ways it was sort of a success as I did try for something and I got a tiny
result, I suppose it gives me something to build on so I’m going to try again tomorrow morning.
Dream 1: The receipt – Again I have spent a long time drifting this time through countless department
stores simply observing and taking in the ambiance and watching the dream world pass by. Near the
end of the dream and late in the evening I walk into one of the department stores cafeterias, I see lots
of dishes and plates of food all laid out ready for customers to choose, pick up and then take over to
the paying counter. I’m aware that I have a special receipt which I picked up earlier in the dream this
ticket permitted me a three course meal of which I have already eaten the first two courses. I go over
to the dessert counter and look at all of the puddings on display and decide that I’d like to use the
receipt to now have the dessert I am granted. I pick up a dish and take it over to a paying counter
where I’m met by a lady serving on the other side. I show the lady my receipt but she seems reluctant
to allow me my dessert even though I am allowed, it would seem that she wants cash. I don’t want to
cause a scene or an argument so go to put the pudding back and walk away but the lady takes my
ticket and makes a little tear in it as if to say I can have the dessert but the tickets value has now all
been used up.
Dream 2: Coffee on the toilet – I find myself in a public lavatory possibly linked to my place of work
(although unfamiliar), I’m sat on the toilet (but not using it) which is placed virtually in the centre of the
room with no cubicle so that it is sort of on view, I don’t feel embarrassed at all by this and even have
a mug of coffee in my hand which I’m drinking from (?!). A male French work colleague has come into
the toilet to use the loo, as he washes his hands he starts speaking to me about all of the work he has
to do. He speaks in French quite quickly and it’s hard for me to keep up with this conversation but I
continue to listen quite intently as I sip on my coffee.
Dream 3: Arrival of the bulldozer – Daytime and from a vantage point in what would be the neighbours
house (a dream version that is, I have never been inside the neighbours house and how it looked in the
dream was not how it appears in waking life) I see a huge bulldozer drive down the road and then into
our garden, whoever is here has come to do some work on the garden. I quickly grab a dressing gown
and go out to meet him and his friend. I watch as he knocks on the front door and knowing that nobody
is home as I’m currently over here in the neighbours house I hurry to go over to meet him. (This was
most peculiar and quite a juxtaposition to be looking from such a different view point).
Dream 4: Milky drinks – I am at work and have got a lot of work on I seem to be up to my neck in
tasks and work but am somehow managing to keep on top of things. I go to speak with a female
colleague about some kind of charts or database which needs updating before going back to my desk.
Once at my desk I take out a six pack of what looks like milkshakes, the plastic bottles look like the
traditional Coca Cola bottles. The milkshakes come in a variety of flavours like banana, chocolate and
strawberry and they would seem to be what is giving me the energy to keep going even though I’m
quite tired and overwhelmed with work (I don’t have any such super drinks in reality....but it might be

My stepfather has taken me to Scotland right up north to the farthest highlands where he takes me into
a remote pub way out in the rugged countryside. The pub has a very masculine atmosphere but in a
positive kind of way. My stepfather buys me a malt scotch the whisky is Glenfiddich I note the bottles
distinctive triangular shape we also share a pipe and some tobacco.
(I have never smoked and I rarely drink alcohol in waking life and never whisky so these details are
almost certainly symbolic).
As we drink in the small cozy bar we look over to a Scotsman who is dressed in an array of traditional
mossy green colored clothing including many layers consisting of animal furs, a shawl or cape, a large
beret hat with a long pheasant feather adorning it, buckles and clasps, a kilt and traditional socks and
The bearded man looks very bulky and muscular I sense that his age is somewhere between 55 and 65
he is very well built and gives off the air of a god such as Zeus or Poseidon in fact his stance as he
stands near the bar looks very reminiscent to a huge craggy Roman or Greek statue.
The Scotsman is a very interesting character he looks very fatherly with his long wiry red beard and
despite his age he also looks incredibly powerful. One detail that strikes me as being very symbolic and
important is the man’s kilt in my dream this seems to represent an important feminine aspect of the
man’s character. Obviously the man is extremely masculine and manly but the tartan green skirt seems
to be a necessary part of who he is.
Interpretation: This dream had something of a masculine coming of age and camaraderie about it, the
ambiance in the dream felt like a kind of casual induction, inauguration or initiation into something
special. The Zeus like Scot was a very impressive larger than life character he was quite clearly a very
masculine character and although the kilt is obviously a symbol associated with Scottish men in my
dream it seemed to be multilayered and represented a latent feminine symbol too. That’s not to say the
character was feminine in any way but this symbol seemed to be giving a nod in that direction as if to
say “Don’t forget that I (the kilt) am a dual symbol” or “I (the kilt) represent a little reminder of the
female side” or at an even more abstract level the upper half was masculine and lower half feminine.
I’m not sure if any of those ponderings are correct or make any sense, this dream in itself might even
represent a halfway point of sorts in which I will perhaps see in future dreams a further progression
away from the themes of female identification. Another note and one reason why I changed the title of
this dream is that I realized that today is Hogmanay, not being Scottish I’ve never celebrated this
occasion (and hadn’t even thought about it until I saw it mentioned earlier on the Web but it could serve
to reinforce the symbolism of the dream such as in the end of the year representing the end of a life
cycle and the starting of a new one.
Dream 2: Aunt 250 Dad 500 – I find myself at the old market house in my childhood hometown, an
aunt rides over towards me on a small motorcycle we appear to have a pre-arranged rendezvous. I
realize that my aunt has ridden all the way from her house which is over 10 miles away so I realize that
our meeting is quite important (as a note this small dream was very detailed and real). My aunt tells
me that her motorcycles engine capacity is only 250cc adding that it’s okay and does the job but when
she has to make longer journeys like from her house to where we are now it’s not so practical. She
tells me that my father (her brother) has just upgraded his motorbike to one with an engine capacity of
500cc apparently he can now get around on his new motorcycle effortlessly. I gather that my aunt
would like to eventually upgrade to a larger motorcycle like the one my Dad has just received. Looking
out from underneath the market building we can both see that it is drizzling with the kind of vertical rain
that makes one feel hindered in going out and getting things done, my aunt and I both seem to be
thinking the same thought in that when the weather is like this perhaps motorbikes aren’t the most
practical of vehicles (the strange thing was that motorbikes seemed to be my aunt’s and Dad’s
profession sort of like they were couriers).
Dream 3: Search for a sandwich at the super school – I find myself walking around a vast complex
which seems to be a mélange between a huge hypermarket, a super sized school and my current place
of work. I’m walking around the super market section looking for something to eat for my lunch and
I’m looking for one sandwich in particular. I glide over the ice rink like floor of the supermarket just as
if I were sliding on ice it’s a very pleasant feeling that reminds me of when I was a kid skidding on a
polished floor in just my socks. A male manager from work who seems quite jovial and friendly (who
incidentally accused me of eating party food in another recent dream) urges to me have a good look
around and pick out something nice to eat. I see lots of sandwiches on display many of which look like
giant canapés sort of giant slices of toast with various toppings. I see lots of bacon sandwiches but
something or someone urges me to stay clear of those as tempting as they look. I decide on taking a
salmon sandwich and head over to a area where I see such snacks being served, I have my eye on
one piece of salmon on toast in particular which consists of an enormous hunk of fish that has been
baked in the oven imparting a golden orangey color its been slightly burnt at the edges giving it a
roasted appearance which I find very delicious. Another male manager comes out to serve me and I
indicate to him the piece of toast with salmon that I want, he tells me to come back in a short while
after he has warmed it and wrapped it up for me. I go off for a few minutes to have a look around the
vast college complex where the rest of the sprawling school is, I can see that the students here range
from children right up to adults with everyone being taught under the same roof it would appear to be
the responsibility of the older students to help and assist the younger ones. After some time has passed
I head back to the delicatessen to pick up my sandwich the manager sees me and I ask him for my
food, he looks vacant and distracted and with little concern tells me that he forgot to do it. The shop is
now being cleaned just before closing I end up walking off in a huff, that sandwich was so
mouthwatering and I really wanted it. As I walk into the school foyer I bump into a lean older woman
who I don’t recognize but feel that I should know. The lady asks me what the matter is as she can see
that I’m a bit upset I say to her deflated and as if we’ve known one another for ages “This is turning out
to be one of those days” I say it implying that I’m sure something else similar to the sandwich incident
is bound to occur today.
