I am stood with my father-in-law and his brother-in-law in a street lined with Christmas market stalls.

We look across the road to a stall which shelters a large table top diorama of a nativity scene.

The religious model serves as a frontispiece and a reception desk to a concealed informal church at the rear of the cabin.

The area surrounding the manger has been covered with white cake icing so as to give the effect of snow.

My father-in-law walks over to the diorama and with his hand breaks through the crust of white icing to where a thick layer of golden marzipan lies beneath.

He returns back across the road with a large chunk of marzipan for himself his brother-in-law and me.

Additional Comments:

Thoughts: For me my father-in-law is the archetypal no-nonsense male, this is the first time I have ever dreamt of him at least as having such a central role. This dream was loaded with great power and authority, the act of breaking through the ice to get to the gold marzipan seemed obviously symbolic but the fact that the ice and gold were also edible nourishing foodstuffs seemed to double the power of the symbols (incidentally I always preferred the marzipan to the icing on a Christmas cake!). The act of going over to the nativity and taking the marzipan also felt like a very brave thing to do for me but to my father-in-law it was a mere formality. The peculiar edible nativity display reminded me a little of the witch’s house in the fairy story of Hansel & Gretel, the dream drama may represent some kind of overcoming of the negative feminine by the adult male. The church which I never actually saw but sensed was there mysteriously behind a curtained doorway may also have links to religion and my father-in-law.

Dream 1: Leaving on Nan’s birthday – Joyful preparations are being made for my Nan’s birthday party. I will be moving out from my grandmother’s house on her birthday to live with my manager from work. My moving out doesn’t detract anything from the festivities and is a comparably pleasing occasion like the birthday celebration.

Dream 3: Laundry detergent – Night time in a warehouse overlooking a docklands. My wife has ordered many boxes of laundry detergent. I create space in the storeroom by stacking the boxes. I want to ask my wife why she bought so much of the clothes detergent.
