I had arranged a concert for Gary Lewis and the Playboys. I recall someone asking me if I could help them meet the band. I said I could. They had changed their style. They were dressed like punks and they played I'll Stop the World and Melt with You (Poorly). They showed film clips (Bad) and they took to boring the crowd with long monologues.Additional Comments:
A few years before I met Gary Lewis and the Playboys at a concert our radio station had sponsored. The afternoon drive DJ was late getting to the concert so I had to MC and bring out the band. I walked out on stage and stood in front of the microphone. I didn't know what to say. I stood there for what felt like an eternity. The crowd which was very loud and impatient (The concert was suppose to have begun twenty minutes prior) became completely quiet and still, waiting for me to speak. The tension mounted to a fevered pitch and I finally blurted out. "Are you ready to party?" The crowd went wild and I said, "Here they are, Gary Lewis and the Playboys." The crowd roared! It was freaking great!
