…It is my birthday (even if it was three months ago). A. L., my cousin, gives me a gift. It is a long, country-like, flowered dress, with an orange surf T-shirt with assorted orange stiletto heels. …I am with I. G., one of my first girlfriends. We are coming out of a big cinema complex. We are going at her (parents’) place, in Perkins, near Gatineau, my hometown. No one’s home… I am going back to my (parents’) place. Am I walking from Perkins to Gatineau? It’s a 20-minute car ride! At the top of the montée Paiement, near “my” place, there is a black smoke in the air. I understand that the top of the hill is actually a volcano. My girlfriend is still with me, and she is trying to run back to “her” home… G. G., my roommate, is bringing me to a cliff we have to climb, a rocky wall facing a beach. It is easy to climb, but impossible to go back down. The top is narrow; I am afraid to fall. She is just laying there, relaxing. I am going to fall, I am sure of it…
