'Serenity' Now!

I was watching/taking part in a movie that was supposed to be Serenity, a movie which I think is based on the cancelled TV show Firefly--wouldn't know because I've never seen either. All I know is the ad for Serenity is funny. "You want to run this ship?" "Yes!" "Well...you can't!" ^_^

This was a big long involved dream but it was rapidly fading even after I awoke and I took no notes. Basically I was a character, and the main male character from the ads (the one who says, "Well...you can't!") seemed to be my companion; it was like I was watching it at times, acting in it at times like it was real and a movie both at once, and at times it didn't seem to be Serenity at all but a movie LIKE it. The set seemed a lot like the high school now that I think of it. Lots of running around dodging bad guys. Lots of bad guys shooting at us and stuff. The mood was tense but action filled and sometimes amusing.

At one point we ran across an elephant and the bad guys came up on us; we ran and left the elephant to face them. This is complex and I don't know how it went. Basically, this elephant was one of a number of elephants which helped power another spaceship. Yes...elephant power. O_o Like they just had some kind of essence to them that helped them power a ship. (I do not mean that they PULLED it or anything--it wasn't PHYSICAL power in that sense. The elephants literally POWERED this other ship--like gasoline, or rocket fuel. It was like their psychic power powered it.) The bad guys, I guess, wanted this source of power. Maybe we were trying to keep it from them, but not because it was ours; maybe because they were the bad guys and we didn't want them to win. I think the bad guys went after this lone elephant but it was strong and overpowered and clobbered them. They might have ended up killing it, though. In any case it provided for our escape.

We ended up running down this other hall (again looking a lot like the high school) and ahead of us we saw a little blond girl, maybe like that little girl actress on the TV show The 4400. I think she was behind some glass doors. We yelled to get her attention because SHE was the owner of the elephant-powered ship and we needed her help--we needed the assistance of her elephants in defeating the bad guys. She saw/heard us but turned and started jogging away. >_< ! We hurried after her, through the doors, and at last caught up; I grabbed onto her before she could escape (I was a female crewmate of the guy), and got down onto my knees to face her while the guy came up beside me, panting.

"We won't hurt you! We just need your help!" I told the girl, but she was kind of obstinate and wanted to run away; she wasn't obnoxious or anything, but she was tense and not very helpful.

My guy crewmate was very impatient with the whole thing. "Look, she's not going to help us!" he exclaimed. "Why don't we just kill her and get it over with!" He didn't seriously mean to KILL her; he was just being snarky like the guy in the ad. I don't remember what EXACTLY he said so maybe it had a funnier context in the dream; in any event, he suggested that we kill her.

I grasped the girl's arms and launched into this REALLY longwinded explanation as for why she had to help us. I don't remember how it all went but part of it was an explanation of how the elephants worked, what the bad guys wanted, and how everything tied together. I remember using the word "replicate" though I don't remember the context. It had something to do with what the bad guys were going to do. As soon as I used this word I realized she was just a little girl and might not get it so I interrupted myself to say, "You do know what replicate means, don't you?"

I was "roleplaying" this entire part of the dream--that is, EVERYTHING that everyone said--the guy, the girl, and myself--was being determined by me alone--I expected ALL of it in advance. There was still an element of surprise, but mostly because I was making it up as I went along. I hoped I wouldn't mess it up, so it's like I knew we were acting right now. In any case, the little girl nodded and I knew she understood what "replicate" meant but she said something like, "It means there's blood all over the walls." O_o Well, no. I had to shake my head and explain to her what it really meant.

"It means to make a copy so there are two of something--a duplicate. A clone!" I added, knowing she would get it. In any event I continued with my longwinded explanation...I mean, I just went ON and ON hoping she'd get the point. I knew this was an amusing part of the movie, and the ending of it just proved this. At some point it was no longer the girl I was holding but a stuffed cat/kitten o_O and whenever I asked the girl if she understood I would make it nod its head. It was like my Tigger toy (not the Winnie the Pooh Tigger, just a tiger toy) only bigger. Nod, nod, nod.

I started to reach the end of my explanation. I can only paraphrase since it was REALLY long and I don't remember most of what I said at all. "So basically, these elephants of yours are important, both in powering your ship, and to the bad guys, and to us. We can't let the bad guys get them because then they can use them to power their own ships, and this won't be good. Yet if we leave you on your own the bad guys might overpower you and you won't be able to save your elephants. And so we need you to help us by letting us use your elephants to power OUR ship so we can defeat the bad guys before they take over! Do you understand?" I made the cat toy/girl nod. "So, do you have a way that you can help us?"

The girl nodded again. My eyes lit up and my crewmate stepped forward and bent down as well, both of us very interested in what the girl would offer as a solution. She gestured us closer as if to whisper, and leaned forward to murmur in my ear.

"Why don't you just go to Africa and catch some more elephants?" she said.

_-_ !!!

My jaw fell. My guy crewmate cocked his head to meet my eyes and said, half in frustration, half in anticipation, "NOW can we kill her??"

Scene switch. I was now looking at a big movie screen which seemed to be ahead of us in the hall; it was a scene of an underwater city or palace or something and there was a mermaid-like person swimming around on the left, and there was flute music trilling; I knew it was the soundtrack/score and I knew it was different from what the score had been like previously. This was apparently a new scene we had just cut to and now I was not part of the movie anymore, but just watching it; though I still felt I was an actor so maybe we just weren't in this scene. The difference in the music really struck me for some reason, but I didn't pay so much attention. I woke up then because my dad yelled at me through the door; I'd forgotten to set my alarm clock. I wonder if the trilling flute music had been from the TV in real life, which is slightly audible through my door.

No real-life commentary; just to say that the entire scenario with the girl, her ending line, and my crewmate's ending line--all of which I planned out myself--was hysterically funny in the dream. ^_^

The Lake In My Living Room

I had a dream that Lake Huron was in my living room!! ^_^ *LMAO* Not quite as nice a dream as "Lake Of Mine," but okay enough, I guess, considering!

I don't remember this as well. It was nighttime and Ma and Dad were both home, lights on, TV going. At some point I said to Ma, "I want you to take me to Lake Huron so I can stick my feet in the water!" I really like doing that; at the height of summer you can put your feet in the lake at the city beach and the water is SO WARM! You wouldn't expect that from a Great Lake. And it's so big it's almost like standing on the edge of the ocean--well, at least to someone who's never BEEN to the ocean. Anyway, it seems as soon as I said this to Ma, I turned and went walking through the living room and bam, there was the shore of what was supposed to be Lake Huron, right in front of me! This wasn't even a surprise! There was a partly sandy, partly pebbly beach extending most of the way across the living room, west to east, in about the middle of the room; it's like the footstool wasn't there. It extended toward and beyond the TV and out into the dining room though nothing was shorting out or anything and the arrangement of things was vaguely off. The water was on the north side of the room and the south side with the couch was dry, and had the regular floor. There was just this band of sand and rocks maybe about a foot wide and beyond that, water which covered the north part of the room. The beach wasn't parallel to the north and south walls; it was at a bit of an angle.

Just as if this had been expected, I went and walked onto the beach and stuck my feet in the water right in the living room!! ^_^ It was so nice! Sandy and pebbly, not sharp and rocky. I splashed around in it a bit. It was amber colored. I remember that Crossing Jordan was on TV and they were talking but I can't remember what they said. Ma was sitting on the couch, on Dad's end (Dad didn't appear in the dream), maybe beading or something. The water was lukewarm and very pleasant. I glanced up at Ma. Even though I was IN Lake Huron right now, it's like I still wanted her to TAKE me there--so I don't know what all that meant. I smiled and exclaimed, "It's not bad at all!"

Ma rolled her eyes and continued her beading (?). "Whatever."

Determined not to let her lack of enthusiasm get me down, I walked through the water into the dining room. It was dim out here as no lights were on though the light from the living room illuminated it well enough. It's like the room was slightly bigger as there was more space. But aside from these differences the layout of things was remarkably consistent. I halted on the beach in front of the ironing board (there's a sentence I never thought I'd type ^_^ ) and the cat was wandering around out here, on the dry half of the room. (It's like the dining room was MORE water than the living room, as the beach was between the computer chair/table and the ironing board, and the table takes up most of the room. Only a narrow part of this room was not lake; it was rug and normal floor.) When I awoke I first thought the cat had been our old deceased cat, Pepper; but I do not think it was. It was either our current cat, Cosmas, or a sort of cross between the two, as often happens in my dreams; I believe it was just Cosmas himself. Though I don't know where I got the idea that it wasn't him, so I guess that's hazy. Anyway, he was wandering around on the dry floor and I reached down to pick him up. "Here kitty! Want to join me in the lake?" I just held him, but he struggled and didn't like it much, just like in real life, only in real life I think he would have freaked out more. ^_^ "Oh, okay!" I exclaimed in mock exasperation, and leaned forward to carefully set him on dry floor. Nevertheless, his back paw stepped into the water, and he jerked it out and shook it off before going on his way; I was amused by this. He wasn't really terrified like he'd be in real life, he just didn't share my enjoyment of splashing around in a lake.

This dream didn't give me the same sense of peace and joy that "Lake Of Mine" gave me, but it was still pleasant enough while I was having it. It also seemed to take off of the earlier dream a bit; in "Lake Of Mine," I explained that the feeling was such that this lake was as close as opening a door out of the room. Well, here, the lake was IN the room! So you can't get much closer than that. ^_^

Hairstyles Of The Huron

What the heck? I had at least three separate dreams about Native American Indians last night. O_o Well, here goes the first one.

Just a snippet. I think it was a book I was looking at in my bedroom. It was talking about the Huron (Wyandotte) Indians and the hairstyles they were known for. There were illustrations. A big fullpage illustration of a Huron man and the typical hairstyle. They were known for some sort of "clubbed" hairstyle. There were several pictures (artwork, since these were early contact-era Indians) and they showed the hair. It was long, but in back it was cut square at the end and somehow styled into a sort of "club" that seemed to flare out in a wide circle at the bottom and this was fixed in place with some sort of decoration which made the bottom of the hair retain its round shape. When I say round I mean circular--the hair was all cut squared-off, flat and even, at the very end, but it was spread out somehow in a circle and some sort of device was used to keep it this way. Like a big round wooden plate of a sort. Really weird and probably impossible in real life.

In addition, there was something odd about the Huron men's (no women were shown) facial structure. Their foreheads, in particular the outer edge of the eyebrow ridges, were prominent in almost a caveman way. And there was something about their mouths; they would jam pieces of wood or something up between their gums and lips and it would make the mouth protrude in a certain way. These were some sort of body modification methods the men were known to use. I looked at a picture of a Huron done up all in this way and he looked very strange indeed with his odd hair and prominent eyebrow ridges and strange mouth. More like some of the natives you'd find somewhere in the jungle, rather than in the Great Lakes region. I don't remember if any of them wore piercings of any sort (which this area's natives WERE known for).

In real life the Huron men wore all sorts of hairstyles, but I believe they were known for wearing their hair in a particular spiked or roached fashion which earned them the name Huron, which was from the French describing the fur of a wild boar.
