I'm supposed to be going to class, but my dad drops me off at the beach. There's a bunch of desks and people picking up trash off the beach, so my Dad and I go somewhere else. On the way, we say "hi" to Chris Jehlen. Then, I end up at the mall with Garry and a few other people from his class and we're all sitting around a fountain. We start talking and he starts singing. (His voice is soooo beautiful!) These little trick-or-treaters come up to us and one of them tries to read us a poem. One of the people with us says "Go away! I've already heard it!" but I haven't, so I ask to see it. It says:
"Her name is [ will not put my name here ]
She has a wife named Garry Stanely
They live in a house together
Forever"
And I turn bright red because Garry would be my husband, not my wife, Stanely is the name of an ex-crush, and Garry is leaning over trying to read it. I rip it up and run away crying.
Date: 7th grade
I'm standing in a dark room, looking down at myself. There's a spotlight shining down on me. I then switch to my body's point of view, and out of the shadows comes a ring of the popular boys in school. "Hey guys," I say kind of nervously. Suddenly, they all start babbling and circling me. I can't understand what they're saying, but they look angry, so I'm really freaked out. The circle gets tighter and tighter as the spotlight gets smaller. I wake up.
Date: Sometime in middle school
I'm watching a beach and ocean. It's like in fast-forward because everything is moving faster than it should be. I see the gods and goddesses of that ocean rise up and fall back into the sea, all types of fish and whales and ocean life living, migrating, repoducing, and dying. Then the sea drains. The next thing I know, I'm standing outside a shoestore in a mall I don't recognize. Inside the shoestore, Dalton Wood is waving at me to come in. I sit down next to him, right in front of the window, and we start making small talk. Then, Brian Willis walks past, and I can't take my eyes off him.
"But maybe they're cheating on me," Dalton says angrily, but I'm not really listening to him. "Maybe they're going out with someone else." He grabs my shoulders and spins me around to face him. "Who is he?!" he yells.
"Who?!" I ask. I have no idea what he's talking about.
"That guy! The one you're cheating on me with!" he shakes my shoulders again. I wake up.

dway through junior year
I'm sitting next to Garry in church. We're in the back row, and almost no one is there, so I lean over to hold his hand. He jerks it away.
"Don't you know I'm gay?!" he hisses. I try to say something, but no words will come out of my mouth. He stands up and walks to the front of the church.
The altar looks like a pet store, but all the shelves are empty except for a few bags of cat food and some worn-out looking dog toys. I walk up and down the aisles, looking for Garry. I find him examining some of the squeaky toys, and I try to make conversation.
"So, you like puppies too?" I ask, then realize just how stupid I sound and try to say something else. Garry and everything else disappears and I'm alone in a white room that was once a church sanctuary. I wake up.
