I was back in Melbourne and I had been out somewhere for the night. In advance, I had decided that catching the tram home would be best and prompty caught one.
Unfortunately, I became increasingly certain that it was going the wrong way. The road became darker and we headed out into the suburbs. Feeling both frustrated and alarmed, I got off at a busy intersection near a brightly lit car park and decided to get a taxi.
There were a lot of taxis about but all of them seemed full or didn't stop. I pulled out my mobile phone and tried to all 13 CABS but after a long and stupid conversation with the operator, I got cut off. My mobile phone is the one that The Boy and I are sharing here in Japan - technically, it belongs to him but I use it as well.
I became increasingly aware that the roads I was at were very busy despite the fact it was now late at night. In fact, in the dream, I concluded that it was because it was late at night that it was so busy. Cars of all colours sped through the intersection, a lot of them disobeying the traffic lights. They seemed to intend to hit each other or the pedestrians who tried to cross the road.
I wondered why I hadn't called my boyfriend to let him know what was happening and why I wasn't home yet. I didn't reach any conclusions and simply rationalized that I would call him when I got a taxi. I called 13 CABS again and this time heard a conversation the operator was having with one of the taxi drivers. He had committed some crime or another and she wasn't sure he could be trusted to drive me home without ripping me off. He somehow convinced her to give him a chance and she mentioned the number of his taxi.
I didn't really care that the taxi driver might rip me off. I was annoyed and I wanted to get home. I saw a taxi pull up on the opposite side of the road and sit there, waiting for someone. I realised that the number of the taxi was very similar to the one I'd heard on the phone and figured that this must be it.
I decided to cross the road. It was rather scary but I wasn't really scared in the dream. Despite there being numerous pedestrians attempting to cross the road and the traffic lights indicating it was safe to do so, a car came roaring through the red light and we all had to jump back from it as it sped past. As I was about to reach the opposite side, an orange car full of guys actually hit the pedestrian walking in front of me. They put the brakes on and he wasn't hurt, but he wound up sitting on the bonnet of their car as they yelled abuse at him.
I made my way towards the taxi, again noting that the number was similar to the one I'd heard on the phone but realising that I hadn't heard one of the digits it contained listed. I decided I didn't care if it was the wrong or right taxi, I was going home and that was that.
Then... I woke up.
Additional Comments:
I was wearing my long blue skirt and black t-shirt with my hair in a ponytail. Usually, my clothes in dreams aren't ones that I would wear in real life but these were.
I don't remember really hearing the traffic - just seeing it.
