I had an amazing dream last night/this morning. I forgot to jot some details down and now most of it has become a haze. I at least wanted to write down the name of the city. My dreams give me words, names or phrases every so often and I try to remember them by repeating them over and over in my head as I drift in and out of sleep. The plan is to write it down as soon as I get to a pen and paper, but I get so easily distracted and it never happens. All I can remember now is that it began with the letter "I".. And it was some Eastern European sort of place.

It played out like a movie and it began with me traveling somewhere I've never been. I don't know why I was there or what I was doing. But I was in transit. And I needed to get on board a ferry to cross over to where I was going. But to do that, I would be crossing the borders of another country. And a man in uniform stopped me because he couldn't accept my passport. He spoke another language, of course, and I couldn't understand what was wrong with my passport and why he wouldn't let me on the boat. I needed to get on the ferry because it was the quickest way to the airport. I was only in this place passing through. And now I was going to miss my flight. He closed the rope in front of the ramp and I was stuck there on the dock.

A woman there, graying blonde frizzy hair with a tired ragged face, thin, maybe in her fifties.. she spoke English. She understood where I needed to go and how I could get there. She offered me a ride and a place to stay overnight.

I hunched in the back seat of her little bare-bones car as it puttered along. It took us onto the highway and into the city. I wasn't very distressed by any of this, but mostly bored and numb. As we grew closer to the city, some of the sights outside caught my eye. I saw color, I saw life, I saw vibrance. I saw a permanent carnival in the middle of the city. My eyes were glued to everything going on through the back window. I became excited, pointing things out to my driver and asking her questions. I can't remember most of what I saw, but it leaves a haunting feeling now.

Back at her little apartment is even more of a blur. I just know it was tiny and also very bare-bones. There may have also been a gray little dog yapping around.

But the city left such an impression on me. And I was grateful for the ferry set-back because without it I would have passed right on through, not knowing any of it was there. I got a chance to see something beautiful.
