Last night was my first attempt at lucid dreaming. I had spent two hours online prior to bedtime researching tips and techniques of lucid dreaming. Before bed, I practised looking at my hands and rubbing the tip of my right index finger into the palm of my left hand. I visualized it puncturing the hand. I also repeated to myself that I would remember my dreams. I asked myself if I was having a dream. I also turned my hands over and looked at them.
I easily fell asleep and my first attempt resulted in my knowing to look at my hands and place a finger to the palm to have a reality test. I also recall telling myself in the dream to not get exciting or I would wake up. My finger pierced through and in about sixty seconds my dream ended.
I had several short dreams in which I remembered to test for reality. I did so, but I was unable to recall anything other than looking at my hands and telling myself that I was dreaming.
The final dream, or it may have been two dreams together, did last a reasonable amount of time. However, I kept losing control of lucidity during the dream. I would be in control one moment and then things would happen that would make me forget that I was in a dream. I would then realise that I was dreaming and regain control. I suppose this is to be expected for a first night's attempt at lucidity.
THE DREAM: I had several children with me who I understood to be my children. They needed to use the bathroom and I told them that the ladies was occupied and that I would "guard" the door to the men's room. The children kept alternating from girl to boy to girl. One boy was blonde-haired and had blue eyes. The bathroom was long, white, and dirty with yellow-piss/age stains. There were no doors to the stalls. I stood in the doorway and watched for people headed to the bathroom. Then my daugher who wore a frilly, blue and white with pink Easter type fancy dress asked me to help her wash her hands. I put my arms around my stomach and lifted her up to the sink. I picked up the bottle of soap and pressed a small amount of it on her hands. As I was washing her hands lather up and go under the water I realised I was dreaming.
I thought my first attempt at dream control would be to see if I could see who I am unconsciously interested in right now or perhaps destined to marry. I told a little boy, "Take me to my husband." He didn't seem to understand. I told him I was in control and demanded that he take my to my husband.
First, he took me to a big white room and a red-haired man was presented to me. He man had a pale face and shoulder-lenght hair that was bright red. He was very homely in the face. I thought he was ugly. I told the boy, "this is not who I want to see." I told the man that he was ugly. In hindsight, I hope I didn't really get to see the real Captain because I was very rude. However, the man in the dream did not look like any paintings I have seen of the Captain.
I told the child again to take me to my husband. He took me by the hand and led me to a darkened auditorium. There was many chairs lined up facing towards me. As he started to lead me down an aisle the first person I saw in the first chair was Philip. The boy still had me by the hand and at this point I believe I lost lucidity because I started to reach back for P. and call out his first name. The boy kept dragging me down the aisle. P. turned in his seat and saw me, he got up and came after me while I was still reaching for him. The boy pulled me away. I recalled that I needed to gain control and I did the finger in the palm thing again and said to myself this is my dream. I shouted out loud that I wanted to go HOME. I was taken to another room that had deep carpets, wood panelling and fancy upholsteried chairs. P. was there. I ran into his arms, we hugged, and he began to kiss me; but I lost control of the dream again. A child came and tugged the bottom of my shirt and quietly and calmly said "help." I looked down at him and was instantly transported back to the bathroom. Now there was an earthquake and the concrete blocks were breaking apart from the motor and I was scrambling to try to protect about five or seven of who I understood to be my children. I became panicked and woke up.
Tonight I plan to control my dreams better and will ask to see the Captain to see what he looks like.
Additional Comments:
They are building a "greenway" (fancy sidewalk with plants) across the street from my house. Part of this includes busting up old sidewalks. There is a lot of noise in the construction process as well as jarring of my windows. I can even slightly feel the jarring in my bed. I believe this translated into my dream as the earthquake.
