Patty

Level of Lucidity:     Level of Cohesiveness:

This dream has been viewed 619 times.

I was working as a nurse at a hospital, my boss was a lady I went to nursing school with, Patty.

I hadn't worked there in a while- months. Then I was called in to work a night shift.

The unit (area we worked) was huge. There weren't enough medicine carts, and the other nurse I shared with kept taking ours. I finally got my medicines given out, but late, like an hour late. I'd checked on all my patients and had some time to sit down and work on charts, like the other nurses.

We sat at the nurses station, which was also huge, and not very well laid out, kind of like a maze with stuff here and there in the middle blocking other areas from view. In fact the whole unit was like a maze.

I was asking about my friend, Patty, since I hadn't been there in a long time, and hadn't talked to her or seen her. They said it was so sad. What? I asked. They told me she and her husband had been at a concert and some people started arguing with them about something. When the concert was over, the people waited outside for them and attacked them. They were beaten and stabbed. I thought OMG that is very sad. The nurse telling the story was holding back tears. I saw that and I realized. She's not dead I said. Yes, they told me. Her husband, too.

I was so devastated. I cried off and on for the rest of the night. When the morning crew arrived, I still wasn't finished with my work. That made it much slower because they needed the charts and I was still trying to finish up my charting, taking breaks to cry now and then.

I was finally finished and ended up staying and chatting with them a while, then I fell asleep with my head on the desk. They just let me sleep. When I finally woke up, I had to look for my shoes because I was barefoot. Nobody seemed to think this was strange. I found them and put them on. Then I had to look for my coat. Everyone was helping me look. I was telling them it was a thick gray coat. A woman came along who works in the pharmacy and said your coat is right here. She opened a cabinet and there it was, but it was not the coat I thought I'd worn.

I got in the elevator to leave. There were two of us in the elevator. When we stopped on the correct floor, she got out, but I was so far from the doors that they closed before I could get out. I had to keep riding. The elevator went down five floors through an underground parking garage. (The hospital was only 3 floors tall). On the way I met some children, and their family. The boy was tough at first but ended up loving me, which made the parents love me because he usually didn't like anyone. We finally got back up to the main floor, where we needed to get out. The family went towards the inner building, I turned towards outside, where my car was parked. When they realized I was leaving, they hugged me and thanked me.

Additional Comments:

Patty is a real woman I went to nursing school with. All the other people and the hospital are unknown to me. I had a very strange nightmare with Patty in it several years ago, when I was working with her. I still remember it. She was the hero in that one.
